"Insert Group Name Here" for Obama

Obama Rally in Sarasota, FL

Lisa Linthicum
My family and I were heading home from a glorious breakfast and Bible lesson on Lido Beach today when we came across a pro-Obama rally. The large group of supporters of the Democratic candidate were crossing the bridge between Sarasota and St. Armand's Circle. Many were carrying American flags and balloons.

Quite a few of the participants were carrying signs that demonstrated which groups are endorsing Obama:

Mamas for Obama

Veterans for Obama

Teachers for Obama

Floridians for Obama

Americans for Obama

Democrats for Obama

Those last two really cracked me up. I chuckled out loud as I passed those signs.

Some folks carried signs that had entire "stories" on them. There were so many words that you couldn't read them - but you could get the basic meaning by looking at the face of the person holding the sign. It was obvious that the economic crisis of our country has deeply hurt these people.

Parents pushed their children in strollers decked out with flags and balloons. I applaud their efforts and how they are introducing their children to the democratic process. A few folks had their dogs all dressed in red, white and blue for the rally too.

There were some cars leading the rally across the lanes of traffic with balloons and signs - and lots of honking as well.

While I'm still not 100 percent sure who I'm going to vote for, I was impressed with the large turnout for the Obama rally today.

We are all Americans. We are all patriots. The sign 'Americans for Obama' is correct. So is the reverse: 'Obama for Americans'. The hateful rhetoric of John McCain, hiding behind the US Flag and telling blatant lies about Obama's character, does not reflect the personality that will make our nation, once again, the most respected nation in the world. I admired and respected the old John McCain. The new John McCain makes his personal ambitions more important than his integrity and more important than the core values of the Republican Party. I don't trust him. He consistently lies during the campaign and, if he becomes President, I think he will consistently lie to the people on every important issue, including his illusory vision of victory in Iraq. What make him think he could resolve the 1500 year old hostilitties between Shiites and Sunnys in Iraq thereby ending the violence? I'd like to know what he's been sniffing. LOL!

Obama is a brilliant man and an excellent speaker. Hopefully his ability to communicate will translate into good relations with our allies.
