Bill Gates always ranks among the wealthiest people in the world. He has a foundation with his wife Melinda called the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. It is the largest private foundation and is larger than the next four foundations combined by asset size. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation are worth nearly $40 billion dollars.

Topics the Foundation Deals With

The foundation deals with global health, poverty and development, education and development, and special projects. Within each topic are narrower topics which the foundation focuses. Examples of the smaller topics include family planning, HIV/AIDs, agricultural development, urban poverty, early learning, scholarships, and emergency response.

Regions

In North America the foundation focuses on libraries and education. In South America the Gates Foundation funds health projects and libraries. In Europe the foundation funds a limited amount of projects in health and libraries. In Australia and Oceania the foundation has found a few health projects to fund. In Asia the foundation efforts are on health, poverty, and development. In Africa the foundation funds many projects in health, poverty, and development.

Incredible Giving

Since 1984 the foundation has awarded nearly $24 billion dollars in grants. Close to 25% of those grants went to projects in the United States . Just over $3 billion dollars went to help global development. Almost $14 billion dollars in grants went towards global health issues. The foundation awarded $3 billion dollars in grants in 2009 alone.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation headquarters are located in Seattle , Washington . The foundation also has an east coast office located in Washington , D.C. The foundation has offices world wide. The foundation has a European Office in London , England . The Gates also have an Avahan Initiative office in Delhi , India and an office in Beijing , China .

    One can only dream what it would be like to be a philanthropist with billions of dollars ina foundation. They have the ability to promote real change.
