Carl Hammer opened the Carl Hammer Gallery in 1979 with the hope of focusing on offering Outsider/Folk art in the context of Contemporary Art. With this vision in mind, he invited mainstream artists to use his gallery as a platform to exhibit their works as part of his gallery program. An esteemed lecturer and author, Carl Hammer states that "we are proud of our representation of artists/visionaries who will aid us in the understanding of our struggle and in our adaptation to change and the future."

In addition to exhibiting works of art, the Carl Hammer Gallery, located at 740 North Wells Street in the River North neighborhood of Chicago, offers an array of services which include appraising of fine arts, interior design consultation, framing and matting services, light ideas and solutions, creative installation of art and exhibition loans. Artists that are represented by the Carl Hammer Gallery include Don Baum, Donald Owen Colley, Eric Daigh, Alicia Henr, Rebeccah Kardong, Marilyn Murphy and Jordan Mozer.
