Inside LA Weight Loss

Casey L. Holley
I worked at LA Weight Loss for a brief period of time. During that time, I learned that people who want to lose weight can spend a lot of money on a program that is available for free on MyPyramid.gov. My stint with the company was short because I had to focus more on making people spend money than trying to help someone overcome weight problems.

Weigh Ins

Each week, you will be asked to come in for one to three weigh in appointments. While the LAWL employee will weigh you, you will also have to sit down while your food journal is reviewed to see if you 'deviated' from the weight loss program. During training, employees are instructed to use the word 'deviated' in place of the words 'cheated' or 'failed' to help the client feel like LAWL cares about her.

Another thing that happens at your weigh in is the employee will review your chart to determine what products to suggest you purchase.

Products

The main way that LA Weight Loss makes money is through the products used with the program. The company sells weight loss supplements, snack items, cookbooks, kitchen scales and LA Lite soy bars. While the LAWL employees may try to convince people that these products are the key to success on the program, this is actually far from the truth. The supplements are similar to those you can purchase at health food stores-just check the ingredients in the LAWL products and compare them to other supplements. Snack items and LA Lite soy bars are also similar to those sold in grocery stores. They are just low fat, low calorie products. The cookbooks and kitchen scales are much less expensive at stores.

Conclusion

While LAWL is a healthy program for someone trying to lose weight, it really isn't necessary to fork over all that money to lose weight. Instead, you can ask a friend to work with you to lose weight. Have regular meetings with your friend to go over the challenges and accomplishments you both have had. Throughout your weight loss program, keep a notebook that details what you eat, drink and do each day. If necessary, make a checklist so you can check off a food from the appropriate food group as you eat it.

If you opt to lose weight on your own, put the money you saved into an account and buy yourself a special treat when you hit your weight loss goal.
