Insider's Guide to MyLot

A Veteran User's Perception of an Online Community

Nakeisha Merritt
MyLot is an on-line community which pays it's users to have discussion and post their thoughts. It's current membership is over 135,000 members strong. It's members come from all over the world, from all walks of life. Every topic you can imagine can be discussed in myLot, from everyday life issues to world news, from health issues to parenting advice. The people at myLot can be serious or fun, they can give you advice or a shoulder to lean on. We learn and we grow as a society. Many countless friendships have been formed at myLot. And if all that isn't enough, we get paid to do it!

That's right, paid. As in actual cash money we can use on whatever we choose. It's not a points based system that we can cash in on specific company chosen products. Every month myLot deposits money directly into our pay-pal or money-bookers account for us to use however we wish. It's not going to make anyone rich but it is a real paying site that rewards it's members for simply interacting with each other. A person does not even need to spend hours a day at myLot to get paid monthly. MyLot offers a relatively low payout minimum of just $10 US dollars.

Many of us at myLot started there solely because the promise of money was interesting. What we found though was that after just a few weeks or even days, the promise of money was no longer a priority. We were developing friendships and enjoying our time there and that was all that mattered. It may seem hard to believe but true friendships really have been formed at myLot.. There have even been real life meetings. Friendships at myLot are very diverse as well. Amongst my friends are an 80 plus year old woman, several students, men and women of various ages from countries I can only dream of someday visiting, and even one who lives on the opposite end of a river I cross regularly.

MyLot is not like other social networking sites. We do input our interests but we are not squirreled away into little groups with no reason to interact with others. Everybody there has many opportunities to interact with every other member. There are no "ignore buttons" at myLot. There are no "block user buttons". Discussions and responses are posted for all to see and for all to reply to as they wish. Private messages may be sent among friends, but the "meat" of the site is all out in the open for all to read and enjoy.

As with any group of adults from different areas with different backgrounds, there are occasional disagreements and arguments. Some people choose to walk away, some agree to disagree. It is rare that a disagreement gets out of hand. Most people realize that with a worldwide community, there are bound to be differences of opinions, especially on certain topics related to culture and religion. Those differences can be difficult but are also educational. Overall, myLot is a very friendly place. It is definitely the friendliest and most interactive social site I have found.

One of the best parts of myLot is that membership is open to anyone in the world over the age of 13, with access to a computer, and at least a minimal grasp on the English language. Filters are in place to protect users under 18 (who are also unable to be paid). MyLot utilizes paypal and moneybookers so citizens of most countries can receive payment.. English is the only accepted language but most users are understanding and helpful to those who struggle with the language.

So in closing, all I can say is that myLot is a very wonderful site. It shows enormous potential and staying power. MyLot does pay it's members. MyLot does create new friendships. It is educational and insightful. I look forward to more years and more friends at myLot and I hope all of you will join me there!

I've been on Mylot about a month now. I did start for the money but now it is more about the enjoyment of the discussions and what I can learn from those not like me or from different areas. Good stuff.
