Third Possible Way there is no Harsher Rearing among Poorer Mothers: If they have to work over sixty hours a week, they cannot spend much time with their sons and daughters; therefore, they are not involved in their kids' lives enough to know what they are up to. It is hard to punish someone if you do not know what he or she has done.

Third Possible Way there is Harsher Rearing among Poorer Mothers: They have a very strong desire for their sons and daughters to do better than them. Because they want them to excel so badly, they push them very hard to make something of themselves.

Fourth Possible Way there is Harsher Rearing among Poorer Mothers: They probably have less access to the right resources than mothers who are in a higher socioeconomic class. They probably do not learn how to be great mothers.

Fifth Possible Way there is Harsher Rearing among Poorer Mothers: They grew up poor and are taking their difficult childhood out on their children. The poorer someone grows up, the more likely he or she is to be poor as an adult.

Sixth Possible Way there is Harsher Rearing among Poorer Mothers: They might be undereducated or on drugs. It is easy for parents in this situation to have difficulty being good parents.
