Insight, Revelation, Epiphany - What is it for You?

Revelation May Come in Many Ways

Josephine Sheppard, MA, PhD, NHC
A revelation may come to a person in many ways. How has such an experience revealed itself to you?

Were you working on a simple project one day and your mind was just wondering when suddenly the answer to a puzzling question came to mind? Or perhaps the concerns over life issues felt heavy and when you finally decided to just let it go because you realized you didn't have the answer, strangely, some kind of clear idea or step to take next, came to you or maybe you gave into the thought that was there all along that you were resisting and it is now working better for you?

Ironic, when we get our self out of the way or at least our perception of what we think it or what our self should be, out of the way, life can happen and clarity starts to come into play.

We otherwise call it a revelation or insight. Yet what seems to be happening mentally and emotionally is we are letting go of having to think we are in control and trying to control every moment and event in life. The reality is that we cannot and are not anyway and are only eluding our selves when attempting to do so, as well as causing self inflicting misery, upset, confusion, frustration, sadness, pain and self doubt, and doing the same to others around us at the same time.

What is wonderful is the revelation is also about becoming aware. One, becoming aware that we have the option or choice to change the path we are on and make a choice that is more effective and that leads to a better life and/or result that is desirable. Two is the revelation that we are better off not being in control and allowing life to happen and to flow with it. In doing so, we have better options and can see them in order to choose less conflict, frustration, confusion, etc and experience more harmony, peace, joy and cooperative relationships with others. We become open and receptive verses closed and narrow when we are in the mode of trying to control every event or action of life.

An epiphany is even experiencing this in action. In other words, not only have we had the revelations what will work now and are taking that course of action, but now I have felt that opposite experience, at least briefly and that is my goal in every way. For example, I have felt the joy of being open and receptive in a healthy relationship and will only commit and take steps that implement this goal; I have felt the compassion, mercy and humility of caring for the ill, poor or disabled and will only commit to action and behaviors that treat others with the way I would wish to be treated; I have felt the Love, Holiness and Presence of a Universal Source and Creator and only desire to be intentional about remaining in the presence at all times.

It is the intention; the action of change in process and the decision to make the change that directs one into a new choice and direction of being - not the end result alone. To remain in the same mind set and only outwardly change, is for the sake of an image only; another form of eluding self and perhaps others and still trying to stay in control by another manner. In doing so, one will only repeat the same lesson and/or cycle over again.

An example would be to still be angry while completing the dishes, though the desired result is to always want a sparkling clean kitchen. One does not have to have anger to complete a task. The emotion closes one to a sense of clarity or accomplishment and fulfillment.

With revelation, an example would show to either be in a state of joy or just open and neutral you can see all that needs to be done; do so without complaint, which takes less of your energy and thus gives you more energy to get your goal accomplished and your attitude is focused on your try intent, which is you preference for a sparkling clean kitchen. In process, epiphany is experienced and you may even realize manners in which to curb various tasks, to ease your cleaning tasks, whereas, if you were still in the mode of anger, you would not because you would act out of carelessness and resentment instead. It is the ability to flow with circumstance, events and others and not against them just because it is different or there is an introduction to another change.

Awareness, revelation comes in that moment when one see's from within and releases the desire and need to control the event, environment, thought or idea, or even the people around her/him and allows peace to sit inside that space instead.

In that moment when one recognizes s/he is still okay and is still them self, even without the need to control any circumstance, event or person - is when that person also truly set free and the revelation and even epiphany may come more readily.

Blessings on your life journey.
