You keep me up for hours each night
I cannot sleep
I look a fright
The moment I drift off to sleep
You snap my brain
In bed you creep
To make sure I am kept awake
You jolt me once
Oh, my mistake!
I thought I could drift off to dream
But now I only
Want to SCREAM
Insomnia
I stay awake and pray for sleep
You laugh at me
I want to weep
I toss and turn relentlessly
Upon my bed
Unceasingly
I'm getting tired - I learn - you teach
That you don't care
You're such a leach
Who sucks the life from me each night
You leave me tired
From dark to light
I'd kill you if I had the strength
But even pills
Can't stretch the length
of hours from daylight long since past
My eyelids droop
But can't outlast
Insomnia
When morning comes you'll go away
You'll leave me crazed
Another day
And then that night you will return
To laugh again
'Cause sleep, I yearn
My brain is mush all thanks to you
I cannot think
You have no clue
How what you do affects my day
I wish you would
Just go away
Insomnia
And yet if you're the muse I use
To write my blogs
Can I refuse
The wisdom you impart to me
On sleepless nights
Is that the key
To long for you to come to me
To welcome you
And what you see
I don't think that I can, my friend
Cause I would like
To see it end
Insomnia

Poor baby! I totally relate! Luckily for me, a combination of a mild pain killer plus Requip for restless leg syndrome (which keeps both people in the bed awake), I usually fall asleep more easily once I get off the dang computer & take my meds. But frequently wake up way before getting enough sleep & then lie there for hours in a stupor going through exactly what you describe to a T! Really great poem, Theresa. Fun meter & rhyme, even if the inspiration comes from hell! Hope things improve for you when your treatments are all complete. Meantime, you have plenty of exhausted company & lots of sympathy!
Can be a muse, but I'm just too sleepy to respond when she's calling me!
ugh, it's a horrible feeling, not being able to sleep!
