Inspiration Cafe in Uptown Gives Back to the Community

I've considered myself lucky to be involved with the generous contributions that the Inspiration Cafe in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood gives to the community. Located at 4554 North Broadway Street, this was unlike any other volunteer experience that I had ever encountered. I actually helped cook meals to people who were affected by poverty and homelessness and even helped plan the meals, while ther volunteers had other roles, like serving the food. You will also take orders from some of the guests because since Inspiration Cafe is similar to a restaurant, the guests tastes might be different. Every time I volunteered there, I stayed for about three hours.

The shifts are usually between two and three hours though. Also, all the food is donated by local Chicago stores. When you see what an impact your cooking and serving has on the guests, it really makes you feel good. I had so much fun there and so did my friends who also came to volunteer with me.

If you're interested on volunteering at the Inspiration Cafe, go to their website, and in the "Volunteer" section, click on the link for the Volunteer Application Form. You can pick which projects suits you best, whether it be the Meals Program, Healthy Living Program, Group Projects or The Employment Project, where you can teach a computer class.
