Inspiration or Distraction

Kathryn Neff Perry
Recently while sitting outside reading a book, and willing myself to stop working for a while, this little butterfly came for a visit. As I sat watching this little guy flit from flower to flower I rested my head, and closed my eyes for a moment. Imagining what that would feel like, springing from one flower to the next. Not a care in the world. Well, maybe a few. Maybe another butterfly swooping down to take over her territory.

It didn't seem to matter to either one of them. In fact they paid no attention to each other, went on about their business. Peace and tranquility.
Sarah Young in her book "Jesus Calling" reminded me of just how to obtain that peace and tranquility in my own life. I don't have to be a butterfly---She said, "Receive My Peace. It is My continual gift to you. The best way to receive this gift is to sit quietly in My Presence, trusting Me in every area of your life. Quietness and trust accomplish far more than you can imagine: not only in you, but also on earth and in heaven."
So while I was distracted from my book by the butterflies, I was inspired by the peace and tranquility the "quietness" of their presence brought.
What inspires you?

Kathryn, Thank you so much for writing such a wonderful and inspirational article. I think I needed this today. I think what inspires me the most is what I learn each and every day. If I take my knowledge and try to help people then I believe I've accomplished my life goals.

Last evening, I was sitting out on the patio swing that overlooks a small decorative pond. There were frogs and goldfish, a tropical water lily and water hyacinths, my cat sitting beside me, butterflies and a hummingbird drinking from nearby flowers, and the weather was perfect. I really tried to sit and enjoy the peace, because I know that cold weather is coming and soon I won't be able to enjoy such moments. I am often inspired by just sitting outside and observing God's creation.

The little butterfly was not a distraction at all, we all need moments like these.
