Inspirational Bible Quotes from Philippians: a Timely Word for Today

I was raised in the Christian faith by a Bible-toting, Sunday-school-teaching grandmother, who prayed continuously. I learned many wonderful and inspiring things from her, including Bible scriptures, while helping her prepare for Sunday school classes.

My grandmother named my father Philip, after the Bible book, named for the faithful church of Philippians, who supported Paul during his ministry. Although a short book of the Bible, Philippians contains some very powerful verses.

Here are my favorite verses from the New King James Version Bible, in the book of Philippians. This seems to be a timely word for today.

I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you.

Nevertheless to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.

For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame - who set their mind on earthly things.

Philippians 3:14-16,18,19

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Finally Brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy - meditate on these things.

The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound.

Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-9,11-13,19

I look back and remember memorizing many of these verses which have helped me through so many troubled times in my life, and are very appropriate for today. You can stand on the truth found within these verses, and be confident that God always keeps His word, and will never let us down!
