Inspirational Books You'll Love

If Your Favorite Reading is Inspirational Stories -- Then These Books Are for You!

Abigail Beal
If you love heart-warming inspirational stories - then you'll certainly enjoy these books. Each of them has true stories shared by real people. Many of the books are anthologies in a series of anthologies - which means that if you like one particular book, there are plenty more to enjoy for the future! Some, such as Chicken Soup for the Soup and A Cup of Comfort are actively soliciting stories for future volumes.

Reading inspirational stories can actually be good for you. I was watching Wayne Dyer, the author of The Power of Intention on a PBS special with the same name. He was talking about how good people feel when they do something good, that their energy fields are increased in size. But what is also interesting is that simply by hearing the story of someone doing something good, your energy field is also increased in size. So reading inspirational stories not only feels good, it is good for you!

Here are some popular inspirational books that you will be sure to enjoy. Warning: you can't just read one story!

Random Acts of Kindness

The Editors of Conari Press

Published by Conari Press

Comments: This book invites you to "join the kindness revolution". It is filled with many inspirational stories of random acts of kindness. Some stories are small thoughtful things, and other stories have deeper meaning. One story that stands out for me is the story of a woman who was upset for a period of time and someone called and played classical piano music over her answering machine. She said that this made her feel loved and cared for in so many ways, that it was so personal. You never know when a random act of kindness that you do is going to affect someone in a greater way.

Small Miracles

Edited by Yitta Halberstam & Judith Leventhal

Published Adams Media

Comments: While this book describes itself as a book full of "small miracles", many of the stories in this book are very powerful. There is one story of two Holocaust survivors who reunite with each other by riding the BMT subway train nine years later in New York City. So many of the stories in this book are so beautiful that you will smile through tears. A wonderful book.

Chocolate for a Woman's Soul

Edited by Kay Allenbaugh

Published by Fireside Books

Comments: This book has seventy-seven wonderful inspiring stories that are just like eating chocolate - without all of those messy calories! This book is for women and is written by women. Stories are about friendship, marriage, motherhood, love, family, work, spirituality and lots more. One of my favorite stories is The Five Dollar Psychic by Jan Hibbard about a woman who goes to a psychic that apparently only charges five dollars for a reading. The reading is spot on, and the psychic picks up on her husband's infidelity and her other issues in her life that it is time to change. The reading inspires Hibbard to make much needed changes in her life. All of the stories in this book are wonderful. Lots of chocolate treats for you to enjoy!

If you enjoy this book there are other volumes, including Chocolate for a Woman's Heart, Chocolate for a Woman's Spirit and Chocolate for a Woman's Dreams.

When God Winks

By Squire Rushnell

Published by Atria Books

Comments: This is a very interesting book, all about the spiritual power of synchronicity in our lives. The book has many wonderful stories of synchronicities of many celebrities that we all know and love, including Oprah Winfrey and Kevin Costner. The stories in this book are just wonderful. The story about Kevin Costner is very interesting, it is about how he thoughtfully comforts a woman in an airport who has just lost her father. He says some meaningful words to her and this comforts her deeply. Later she discovers that she is in the same area that he is filming his movie. The woman re-introduces herself and Kevin Costner introduces her to a very important man - the man who would later become her husband! This is a wonderful book with lots of stories that will fascinate you.

Hot Chocolate for the Mystical Lover

Edited by Arielle Ford

Published by Plume Books

Comments: This book has 101 stories about soulmates and how they were brought together and about their relationships. This book is wonderful, and there are so many great stories in this book. One great story is about a woman who befriends an astrologer who predicts who the woman will marry. The woman thinks the astrologer is wrong but later it turns out that the astrologer was correct because she said that they would meet at a certain time, not marry at that time. This is a wonderful book with many interesting stories from different viewpoints about the soulmate relationship.

Chicken Soup for the Woman's Soul

Edited by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, Jennifer Read Hawthorne, Marci Shimoff

Published by Health Communications, Inc.

Comments: This is probably considered the classic book of inspirational stories that has been published recently. Chicken Soup books are terrific. This book has 101 stories and all of them are home run type of stories. Some will make you laugh out loud. Some will make you cry. Some will make you laugh and cry at the same time. There is great variety in this book, something for everyone and literally a story for every type of mood you could be in - but every story ends on a positive note and you'll be glad you read it. One terrific story is one about a woman who kept a secret spice in her kitchen to shake into every recipe and her secret ingredient is love.

If you enjoy this book there are lots of other Chicken Soup for the Soul books out there. They include for Writers, for Cat Lovers, for Pet Lovers, for Nurses, for Volunteers and for Kids.

A Cup of Comfort for Christmas

Edited by Colleen Sell

Published by Adams Media

Comments: This is an inspiring collection of stories all about Christmas that you will just love. One of my favorite stories is about a deaf child who goes to the mall to see Santa and is happily surprised to discover that Santa knows American Sign Language. All of the stories in this book are just wonderful and will certainly put you in the Christmas spirit.

If you enjoy this book there are other Cup of Comfort books including Cup of Comfort, Cup of Comfort for Friends, Cup of Comfort for Mothers & Daughters and Cup of Comfort for Inspiration.
