Inspirational Christian Poem: Feelings of Loneliness

Amanda R. Dollak
How can I feel so lonely

When God is e'er by my side:

His warm arms embracing me,

Stronger than the raging tide?

They shroud me with a soft cloak

Of His great mercy and love

And like the boughs of the grand oak,

They lend me sweet shade from above.

Yet, my blind spirit does shrink

At the void it fancies ev'rywhere,

And my weak mind can't help but think

I'm left with more than I can bear

To flounder through this dark land,

Ceaseless roaming all alone,

Untouched by the Lord's loving hand,

And left with no means to atone.

Oh, the lack of faith and sight

Cultivated in my tepid heart

And fed during the bleak night

By many a fiendish dart!

If only my paranoid soul

Would simply glance through heaven's eyes,

Instead of through this earth's, grim and foul,

Or through the devil's teeming lies,

It would surely see God's holy flame

Surrounding me fully in its blaze,

Cleansing my soul of all blame,

And protecting me all my days.
