1 Corinthians 13:4-8
"Love is patient, love is kind;love does not envy or boast; it is nor arrogant or rude. It does not insist on it own way; it is not irritable or resentful it does not rejoice at wrongdoings, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends"--most people recognize this as the wedding verse because most people use this at their wedding. However it in no way diminishes how encouraging it is. Marriage is hard everyone who is or has been married can attest to this. I personally have to watch myself so I am not one who gets so self involved where I keep a tally of wrongdoings, or who started what fight. But this verse reminds me that love is pure-love is why I got married to my husband in the first place. Love is a gift and the fact that we have the ability to love and marry for love is wonderful. It never ends and no matter what difficulties you may face in your marriage sometimes all it can take is a step back and remember that you have love which is why you got married in the first place.
Psalm 121: 2
"My strength comes from my Lord, who created heaven and Earth"--it's very simple but very powerful. There is the saying that God never gives you more than you can handle. This was something I had to remind myself of recently when it seemed like everything came piling down around my family's head at once and around the holidays no less. I had to remind myself to remain strong because my faith knew that no matter what it would all work out in the end. It is darkest before the dawn and it takes the bad for us to appreciate the good sometimes. If you draw you strength from the Creator, there is nothing that will break you down.
Proverbs 12:1
"Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid"--I have to remind myself of this one because I can be a very prideful person. When people correct me, I have to remind myself that it is not because they want to point out how stupid I am or a flaw of some kind but because they are trying to help me to learn and grow and be better. This is applicable to all aspects of my life whether it be work personal or school because I have to remind myself that if I didn't take the corrections pointed out to me, then I would be more foolish in the long run since as a person I want to know my mistakes so I can avoid them and grow and be better.
John 8:12
"Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of the life"--it can be easy to get lost in the darkness that sometimes coats the world. It is easy to lose faith and think that it will never get better. But if you follow the Lord, the world seems a bit less dimmer simply because you are living your life following the path that is set out for Christians and the entire darkness of the world will never fully touch you. Also it is the knowledge that following this light will lead to eternal salvation and that in the end the light will be fully surrounding you. I draw strength on this in that as long as I live my life the way I know I am suppose to as opposed to how I want to that my life will be surrounded by light and the darkness that the world can be will never fully encompass me.
Psalm 139:16
"You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed"--the first time I heard this one it was being used in a talk and it stuck out to me every since. What this says to me and what makes it inspiring is that is because God knows exactly how I am and will be. He knows that sometimes I let my anger get the best of me and can be petty or oversensitive. But what's more is that He knew this before I was even a notion. Before I was conceived He knew what I would do how I would be how certain situations would make me react and He still loves me. That's inspiring for a person who sometimes has days where she is not proud of how she lived it; that she let her anger get the best of her or said something to someone that she probably should have thought through more. It is just an inspiring verse for the days where one feels like they did nothing right.
Those are some of the most inspirational verses to me. I hope that if they are not your favorites that this helps to add them to the list.
