Visualize your Reasons - If you put together a list of all the reasons why you want to get in shape and hang it in a place where you will see it daily, it will be a constant reminder of why you are doing this. A few examples might be to feel healthy, or to feel good about your body. Make sure they are reasons that make you feel good.
Set Goals - They may be short term goals or long term goals. However, by setting goals you will know what you are striving for and will push yourself that much harder. Maybe it's to lose 5 pounds, or to tone your arms in a certain time period. Think about what you want to do.
Set a Schedule - How many days do you want to workout? How much cardio per workout and how much weightlifting per workout? By setting a schedule it will help you remain much more consistent with your fitness time.
Find something you Enjoy - It doesn't have to be a trip to the local gym. It could be joining a local sports team, or dance lessons. If it's something you enjoy doing it will make the time fly by and you'll have fun while getting fit.
Change It Up - If you stick to the same routine every time you workout you'll get bored. If you change routines or sports you'll find it much easier to stay motivated. Even if it means you change cardio machines in the gym, you'll find you won't get quite as bored.
Exercise Buddy? - Some people find exercising with a friend helps to keep them motivated and forces them to go. Others find it doesn't work for them. If it works for you it's a great way to cheer each other on!
Get Appropriate Workout Gear - Make sure you have comfortable clothing to work out in, and it always helps to feel good about how you look in your workout clothes. An IPod or some kind of music device is great as you can listen to music as you work out.
Be Realistic - Remind yourself that changes won't happen immediately overnight. It will take time and alot of hard work and dedication, but you will also feel healthier and better about yourself as you begin to see the results over time.
Working out and getting fit can be fun, so make sure you reward yourself for your hard work, and remember that the hardest part is always taking that first step to get started. Exercise can become enjoyable once you get into a routine, so give yourself the time to adjust, and remember that you are doing this for yourself, so give yourself a pat on the back and be proud of yourself for taking the steps to better your life.
