Installing and Configuring TeamSpeak

Josh Cox
Teamspeak is a Voice Over Internet Protocol or VoIP program commonly used by gamer for voice chat. Teamspeak adds a whole new level of communication to many online PC games, especially those which do not have built in voice communication. Teamspeak is generally considered an "advanced" game tool, because players often do not know how to setup or join a Teamspeak server. In reality connecting to a Teamspeak server is very easy.

Installation: Installation is the easiest step in preparing your Teamspeak 2 Client. To begin you must download the Teamspeak Client install file from www.goteamspeak.com After that you simply follow the instructions to complete installation of the Teamspeak Client.

Quick Connecting: Connecting to a server is slightly more difficult than installing Teamspeak. To connect to a server you must first find the server address, or the IP of the server you wish to connect to. After finding the server address you must put that address into the "Server Address" box under "Quick Connect". The nickname you chose can be anything, or if left blank the server will auto assign you a nickname. If you are not registered on the server you are connecting to you should leave the "Login Name" box empty. If the server you are connecting to has a password, that password should be put under the "Password" box. Then just click connect, and if you have set everything correctly you will hear "Link engaged" as you connect to the server.

Standard Connecting: Using standard connect is slightly more difficult than "Quick Connect" but it also has it advantages. Using standard connect you can specify a server name under "Label" this way you know which server it is. Just like with Quick Connect, the "Server Address" is the IP of the server. If you are registered on the server you should check the "Registered" box, otherwise you should check "Anonymous". If registered you must put in the "Login Name" as well as the "User Password". If you aren't registered you must specify the "Server Password", if there is no server password leave that box empty. If there is a certain channel within the server you wish to connect to initially you must specify that in the "Default Channel" and if it has a password you must provide it under "Channel Password" If you don't have a specific channel you want to connect to you can just leave these blank. Then click connect, and you should hear "Link engaged" and you are connected to the Teamspeak Server!

After joining a server there are many things you can do other than talk to the other users. You can create channels, join channels, and possible delete channels. Depending on your "User Level" and the server settings you will have different privileges. One important change everyone should make after joining a Teamspeak server is to enable Push to Talk. This makes it so that you must push a button for Teamspeak to transmit, rather than everyone hearing you breathe. To enable Push to Talk you click "Settings" then move down to "Sound Input/Output Settings". You will see a box that says "Push to Talk" click that and then click "Set." The next key you push after pushing set is they button that you will need to push enable to transmit on Teamspeak. Congratulations, you know have Teamspeak 2 installed, configured, and properly functioning!
