Installing a Medicine Cabinet

Most of us have our medicine cabinet built in with the bathroom side mirror. However, we often find that the space is limited and cannot hold much of the prescription medicines or the health and wellness bottles we've picked up over the years. Most often as the number of people in a household increases, so does the amount of bottles in the medicine cabinet. To counter that problem of space, people opt to install their own bigger medicine cabinets that will be able to hold all the bottles and things needed for well being. Below are steps to installing your home medicine cabinet. You will find the steps simple, but choosing a cabinet from the myriads of new and stylish designs is another story. Before following the steps, there are certain things you will need to have in place in order to get your cabinet installed. You will need to have access to screws, drywall anchors, drill, pencil, and of course the medicine cabinet.

In the first step, you will need to make a guide mark at the edge of the cabinet as you hold it against the wall where you will be installing it.

The second step involves putting the cabinet aside and leveling up the shape of the cabinet on the wall. This is to be sure that the cabinet's size is well measured for hanging on the drywall.

In the third step put the cabinet on the wall again, with the top part placed evenly with the mark made in the previous step. Now mark the place to drill the holes. The holes are for the anchors that will be holding the cabinet against the wall.

In the fourth step, set aside the cabinet again, and drill holes into the wall where you will be putting the drywall anchors. After the holes are drilled, the drywall anchors are now ready to be inserted.

Next, put the medicine cabinet back on the wall and insert the screws following the already drilled holes in step three. Fasten the screw loosely, not tightly yet, as you want to make sure the cabinet is straight on the wall and all is well before completely tightening the screws.

In the final step, double check to be sure that the medicine cabinet is leveled with the marks you made in the initial steps, and make any necessary changes. Now tighten the screws completely and voila, you have a new, bigger medicine cabinet.

No longer do the bottles and remedies in your restroom cabinet need to feel like the fish inside a can of sardine. You have more space now so enjoy.

Reminder: if you have children at home, always be sure to have your medicine cabinet locked or high enough that children cannot get something from it. Be safe and take care of yourself and those you love.
