Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Safest Cars 2010

Stacey Doyle
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety just announced the safest cars. A total of 8 SUVs and 19 cars earned the 2010 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick award for being the safest cars on the road today.

Whether you drive yourself to school, have children to shuttle to soccer practice or drive a senior to medical appointments, having the safest car makes you feel more confident on the road. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety award recognizes vehicles that protect people best in the rear, front, side and rollover crashes. The Institute tests the vehicles and rates their safety performance.

The only car manufacturer to have winners in all 4 classes in which it competes was Subaru, winning a total of 5 awards for 2010. The categories are large cars, midsize cars, small cars, midsize SUVs and small SUVs. Cars that didn't measure up include Ford Fusion and Honda Accord for lowered roof strength ratings.
