Insuring Illegal Immigrants Will Lead to Disaster

Illegal Immigration and the Deficit Will Escalate Out of Control

Mathew Paul
The issue of including illegal immigrants in the recent health care reform benefits is very controversial and for good reason. Well meaning people on both sides of the isle want to be compassionate and take care of them. But, is this the right thing to do?

The recent rise in immigration from the southern border is being fueled by the economic benefits which the immigrants receive when they obtain employment in the United States. The immigrants earn enough money to support themselves and their families here in the United States and then they actually have a lot left over to send to their relatives in their native country. As a matter of fact, immigrant workers send more money home to their relatives then foreign investment and foreign aid combined. These economic benefits are so attractive that immigration from the south has gotten out of control and some have called this an invasion rather than immigration. Obviously, providing impressive health care coverage to illegal immigration will only add fuel to the fire by making immigration even more irresistible to people living south of the border. This will only make the situation much worse.

Proper immigration reform requires getting control of the border, limiting new immigration, and finding a just solution for the immigrants who are already here.

The second issue is, can we afford to offer this health care to the new illegal immigrants? Clearly, we cannot. The United States is in the middle of one of its greatest recessions in history, and is already trillions of dollars in debt . Insuring illegal immigrants will significantly worsen the debt problem. Moreover, we do not have the medical capability to take care of these immigrants. If we grant health insurance to all legal US citizens right now, the system will be overwhelmed and people will have to wait in line for health care, and risk further deterioration.

  • Health insurance for illegal immigrants is a compassionate idea.
  • Unfortunately, it will lead to uncontrollable immigration and worsen the deficit.
  • We do not have the economic or medical capability to take care of them.
