Integrated Units for Health and P.E

It is easy to integrate two disciplines in a physical education and health unit. Teachers can have students do some sort of exercise during any lesson whether it is playing musical chairs, having races, doing jumping jacks, running in place, etc. Teachers can have students keep a learning journal for every subject including physical education and health. Teachers can also incorporate vocabulary words related to physical education and health units like excessive, nutrition, balance, coordination, injury, accident, disease, etc. Since addition and subtraction is everywhere, it can be used with any subject. Teachers can have students count jump skips, hops, etc. Teachers can also have students count the number of calories that they consume every day. Teachers can also give students word problems that are related to health and P.E. Physical education teachers and regular education teachers can make integrated lessons together. Regular education teachers and physical education teachers can also talk about students physical needs and how to meet some of them in the actual classroom. Regular education students can also observe a physical education class and discuss things that happened during the class with the PE. teacher during some free time. Teachers can also look at curriculum standards together and find some P.E. standards that will work in the regular classroom.
