Intel Celeron 450 2.2Ghz Review

The Intel Celeron 450 2.2Ghz is a respectable 64 bit performer at a low end cost. This is the same processor Dell is using in the Inspiron 570 series computers, some of which are available for under $300 at places like WalMart and other electronic retailers. The Intel Celeron 450 is available in OEM version from Buy.com for $39.99 + $8.00 shipping, (at the time of this writing).

While this is not a top of the line, latest in technology, high end performer, although it's performance is quite respectable and for most home users needs it should be sufficient. In comparison to my 5200+ Athlon 64 dual core, surprisingly this inexpensive CPU runs at about 75% - 80% the speed in digital video editing. My wife is a digital graphic artist and web designer, and this CPU with 2 Gb of Ram has easily handled everything we have thrown at it so far, without complaint. With her old 1800+ computer, it took about 15 seconds to bring up each image in her Coral Paint Shop Pro 11, and with this CPU it takes less than a second for each image.

The Intel Celeron 450 2.2Ghz CPU is a new release from Intel, just before the start of school this year. A perfect performer for students with plenty of overhead to do other things as well. The specs of this CPU are:

Speed: 2.2Ghz

Single Core

Front Side Bus: 800Mhz

Model # 450

L2 cache: 512 KB

64 bit processing

Socket T

Processor Tech: 65nm

Voltage 1.3375 DC

Watts: 34

If you are looking for a computer for word processing, the kids for school, small business applications, or probably about 90% of the software packages you might purchase, (if not 100%), this CPU runs cool and quick and in our experience, can handle the load. In many cases, this could be the perfect solution for someone wanting to be able to use today's operating systems and 64 bit technology, but do not require the power required to search the CIA database. For those who are satisfied with less than a Ferrari or Lamborghini, the Intel Celeron 450 2.2GHz processor might be the heart beat of your next computer.

My wife's computer, using the Intel Celeron 450 2.2GHz, runs typically with a dozen processes running in the background, a system monitor, web Design software, FTP, IE8 with as many as 20 tabs open, and Paint Shop Pro 11 many times with at least a dozen 10 mega pixel images in editing process, all at the same time and so far has not had a hiccup or freeze up yet. The CPU is solid and stable, and handles it all without overheating. In fact, we are considering two more computers with this CPU for each of the kids. Yes, it's that nice for a budget computer.
