Intentions, Actions & Destinations

Day 9 - a Year with God

Marilyn Quinn
Today has me pondering intentions, actions and destinations. They all play a part in where we are, where we want to go and where we end up.

I am not always living in a way that allows me to reach my intended destination. I can sometimes have the ideal scenario in my mind; the perfect home life, the perfect relationship, a goal, a dream. But without right actions to back it up and help me get there, it isn't likely to happen by accident.

In fact, without right actions our intentions are sometimes a hindrance to our reaching our destination.

Prayer won't get us to our destination exclusive of any action on our part. I don't discount the value of prayer, in fact I know how important it is for me to ask God for what I want. You have not because you ask not is something I have heard numerous times. A mentor of mine is fond of saying you have to ask to get.

But asking is not the end, we also have to take actions. We have to continue living and interacting in a way that allows us to receive what we are asking for.

We can pray for God to make us thin; but if we eat a bag of cookies every night before bed, we are probably not going to get there. Probably better that we pray for the strength to resist the temptation of the cookies. There is a lesson in knowing what you want and how to get it.

I personally think that we should ask in the right way. Instead of asking for something to be removed, ask for something to be given. What we think on, we get more of. If I told you not to think of a purple cow. The only thing on your mind would be the purple cow. Since you aren't trying to manifest a purple cow, don't think of the negative. Make your prayer a positive.

I would like the wisdom to see my errors, the humility to admit them and the strength to correct them. I want to be able to take right actions that allow me to reach my destination and take brave new steps in the direction that leads me to my goal.

"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened." Matthew 7:7-8

God always answers our prayer. Either He changes the circumstances, or He supplies sufficient power to overcome them. --Anonymous
