Scuba diving has always been an extremely exciting activity and many people try this adventurous sport throughout the year, at various locations around the globe. The best part about scuba diving is that you will see amazing aspects of nature when participating in the activity. If you never have tried scuba diving and are eager to give it a shot, check out this beginner's guide to scuba diving.

The first thing to keep in mind when considering scuba diving is that you are permitted to dive if you are over 15 years of age. However, kids in the age group of 10-15 years can now go for scuba diving provided they obtain a Junior Open Water Diver certificate. Before scuba diving one must be declared physically fit. As a custom, a routine medical questionnaire is to be filled up by the divers and if anything that is questionable is found, the diver should consult a doctor about it before attempting to go in the water. Generally people with heart ailments, respiratory disorders, skin infections and pregnant women are advised against scuba diving. So, if you have any of these conditions, consult your doctor before you take the plunge.

Scuba diving is not just about swimming with colorful fishes. People scuba dive to check out coral reefs, underwater plants, for recovery and search purposes, to look at the waterbed at night and many other interesting purposes. Some dives even include sunken ships or crashed airplanes. If you too want to indulge in some really adventurous times underwater, try scuba diving.

While there are innumerable places in the world from where you can scuba dive, some of the most popular locations are the Caribbean, the Mediterranean coast and Hawaii, to name a few. The different locations also have different weather conditions and depending on whether you like a cold dive or a warm dive, you can select the destination of your choice. It is however, a very big misconception that scuba diving is done only during summer, when the water is warmer. There are even ice dives available if you want! You must be careful about your diving gear as well. If you are going for a winter dive, it is advisable you put on a dry or semi dry suit. This will keep you dry and warm. While on the other hand if you are going for a dive in warmer waters, you can merely wear a standard wet suit.

Owning or renting the correct scuba gear is extremely important. As an amateur, you should take extra care to make sure your mask, snorkel, fins and weight belt fit properly. It might be wise to walk around in your equipment for a short amount of time to ensure that you are comfortable.

Scuba diving is a wonderful sport, but one must exercise caution when participating in it. Before you attempt to dive, take a class with a professional and become certified. An instructor can guide you on safety precautions and what to do if an emergency arises.
