What Is Google Trends?
Google trends is basically a Google application released as part of Google Labs that allows anyone to look through global search data and to analyse how often a keyword is searched and from what nations. What makes it particularly interesting is that the tool allows comparison of multiple words against each other. For instance the total results in comparing blue against red shows that the search ration is 1.00:1.18 in favour of red. This article will look at a few other interesting trends that can be witnessed by using Google trends.
Interesting Google Search Trends: Love Vs. Sex
For every time the word love is entered into the Google search engine, another 2.56 times the word sex is entered. Interesting, in countries such as India and Indonesia the word sex is looked up in a higher ratio despite these countries tending to have stricter views on sexuality, though perhaps this is influenced by some language issues. In India for every single time the term loved is entered, sex is entered 6.4 times and in Indonesia it is 4.9 times for every time the word love is entered. Very surprising results from Indonesia, due to it being a largely Islamic nation with quite strict rules concerning sexuality.
Interesting Google Search Trends: Death Vs. Life
Every single entry of the word death is countered by 5.7 entries of the word life. Quite a surprisingly positive results, really.
Interesting Google Search Trends: War Vs. Peace
One of the most blown out rations, for each time the word peace is entered into a Google search engine the word war is entered 14.2 times. This certainly says something about the world, but it is hard to discern just what. Perhaps peace is safe and therefore not worth looking up, whereas war is a threat and hence is. Regardless, war seemingly wins.
Interesting Google Search Trends: Allah Vs. God
One that certainly surprised me, Allah came out as number one despite the word god being used more liberally and outside of biblical references. For every time the word god is entered into a Google search engine, the word Allah is entered 1.4 times.
Interesting Google Search Trends: Jesus Vs. Muhammad
Muhammad came out comfortably as first with every single search for Jesus being mirrored by precisely six searches for the word Muhammad. This is surprising, but given the large spread of Islam through large populations such as Indonesia and a huge portion of the East it seems to make some sense.
