Interesting Museums to Visit in Los Angeles California

shannon day
The Los Angeles area is an amazing place to visit. There is so much to see and to do. Museums are a great way to learn and get involved with the world around you. If you have children a museum is a wonderful way to spend a day exploring and learning together. I take my six year old daughter to the California Science Center and there is so much to do. The day will pass faster than you knew with all the hands on activities you can participate in. Right now they are doing an exhibit called "Creative World" which explores the benefits and risks of what we have invented thus far. There is also the one called "World of Life" which explores how all living things have things in common. Body Works is an exhibit that has been seen all over the country and details how, and I mean really how, the human body works, form the inside out. If you decide that this sound like something you would like to see and explore, you can contact them at 323-724-3623. They are open daily from 10 am to 5 pm except the major holidays. You can find them South of downtown LA and in the in historic Exposition Park. Bring the whole family to the California ScienCenter, where you can find something for the entire family.

Another great place to visit it the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. This museum is home to the worlds largest shark, the Mega mouth, a 14.5 foot male, one of only 17 found since their discovery. They have over 2,000 gem and minerals on exhibit. One of the largest gold exhibits around. The Marine Hall features marine life from the California area from the inter tidal to the deep sea. Sadly the Dinosaur area is closed due to renovations until 2011. There still is plenty of fun to be had here. You can contact them at 213-762-3466. They are located at 900 Exposition Blvd in Los Angeles California. The hours for the Natural History Museum is 9:30-5:00 Monday through Friday and on 10:00 to 5:00pm on weekends and holidays. The first Tuesday of each month is free to get in also.

There is one more on my list that I can not wait to visit. How can you go to Los Angeles without going to the Grammy Museum? It will be opening in the beginning of December 2008. It will be located on the top four floors at the Heart of LA Live. The museum will have four floors of film, history and interactive activities having to do with the Grammy's and music. The second floor will have the Grammy experience, in a 200 person theater and also has the "Songs of Conscience, Sounds of Freedom" which overviews 200 years of American music. The third floor shows you what goes on backstage in the recording studio, and how art and technology come together to make the music we all love. On the fourth floor the music will amp you up for the experience. There are over 150 different music genres to explore. Explaining how each genre of music connects to another one. The grand opening for this 32,000 square foot museum is set for December 6th to the public. The grand opening celebrations last all week. On December 3rd they are going to have a media day. On December 3rd there will be a VIP reception. A gala concert is going to be held on December 4th. The ribbon cutting ceremony for the Grammy Museum will be held on December 5th. There will be live music on December 5th, 6th and 7th.
