When preparing these bagels it is best to eat them in half sized portions to emphasize the flavor.
Bagel topped with peanut butter- This may not sound too appetizing but the contrast of toasted bread and gooey peanut butter is pretty delicious. The key to making this mixture taste good is to choose the proper kind of bagel. Plain or cinnamon raisin bagels taste best with peanut butter.
Preparation: First toast the bagel and then spread the peanut butter on top of it. Next, microwave or toast bagel in toaster oven for six seconds. The idea here is to get the peanut butter warm enough so that it melts on top of the bagel. If you are a fan of bananas and peanut butter you can slice a few bananas and place them on top of the bagel.
Pizza bagel- Why not combine two delicious foods? The best bagels to use for pizza bagels are plain, onion, or poppy seed.
Preparation: First lightly toast the bagel in the toaster, and then top it with pizza sauce and your favorite toppings. Some great pizza toppings to use are; fried green or red peppers, fried onions, pepperoni, and shredded cheeses such as mozzarella and cheddar. Asiago cheese, Romano cheese, and Provolone cheese are great cheeses to use for pizza. Next, place bagel in oven or toaster oven until cheese is melted, or browned.
Hummus bagel- Hummus is a staple food in the Mid-East. It is a spread that is made from chickpeas. The main ingredients include chickpeas, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and tahini. Cumin and Paprika may sometimes be used in the less traditional varieties. Hummus may not satisfy all taste buds. Many people agree that Hummus is tasty and a much healthier alternative to cream cheese but others complain that Hummus is too light and void of flavor. If you have never tried Hummus then you must. The best bagels to eat with Hummus are; plain, onion, sesame, and poppy seed.
The best Hummus flavors to use on bagels are garlic and traditional. Athenos Hummus is a good brand of Hummus to use.
Preparation: Toast bagel and spread Hummus on top.
Peanut butter jelly bagel- The flavor in this bagel is best brought out when the peanut butter and jelly are warmed.
Preparation: First toast the bagel in toaster and then spread peanut butter and jelly on it. Next, microwave or toast bagel in the toaster oven for six seconds. Be sure that you do not microwave the bagel for too long because it will become hard to bite and chew.
Melted cheese bagel- This bagel is quick and easy to make and tastes heavenly. The best bagels to use for the melted cheese bagel are; onion, poppy seed, and sesame seed. Plain bagels are great to use too but not as flavorful as the bagels mentioned above.
Preparation: Preheat oven. Lightly toast the bagel in the toaster, once the bagel is lightly toasted coat it with margarine and top with cheese of your choice. Great cheeses to use are white shredded cheddar, Mozzarella, or Monterey Jack. Place in oven for 1-2 minutes or until cheese is melted, browned, or has bubbled over.
Bagel sandwich- This way of eating a bagel is more common than the ways listed above. The bagel sandwich is a popular food item in many eateries such as Dunkin' Donuts, Au Bon Pain, and Panera bread.
Preparation: Preparation is simple. First you should preheat your oven. You also need to decide what type of sandwich you want to make. The two bagel sandwich types are; the breakfast bagel sandwich which includes; sausage, eggs, and cheese or bacon, eggs and cheese and the lunch bagel sandwich. The lunch bagel sandwich includes deli meat, deli cheese, tomatoes, onions and lettuce.
Once you have all the ingredients, take your bagel and spread margarine on both halves. Place your bagel in the oven on top of aluminum foil for about 2 minutes or until the bagel is crispy and brown around the edges. Take your bagel out and place the cheese directly on it so that it melts. Then place your meat, tomatoes, onions, and lettuce onto the bagel. If you normally put mayonnaise on your sandwich you can place a thin coat on the bagel.
