World Cultures in Focus

May
Introduction

The diverse cultures in the different countries in the world largely affect the way art is being expressed in each nation. But though people and their customs, and their aesthetic expressions of their cultures vary from each other, we should learn to understand that all "art-makers", across cultures and times, apply the same basic art ingredients and principles in their work. Diverse people all around the world employ means and methods to give outward form to their inward visions - it can be a festivity of religious ideas or something as simple as a decoration of serviceable objects for everyday life. It must be noted however how intimately aesthetic traditions and optic expressions mirror the culture of those who produce them, from environmental, to political, social, and economic connections.

One of the world-renowned design disciplines is the Interior Design, the act of defining the scope of an interior space through the influence of spatial volume as well as surface artistic style. Interior Design is seldom confused with Interior Decoration. Though both produces traditional decoration, Interior Designing draws aspects of architecture, product design and environmental psychology. Interior Design is a creative practice. One who practices such discipline must learn how to analyze programmatic substance, set up a abstract direction, refine the pattern direction, and produce visual communication and structural documents. Essential parts of various design styles must also be considered; they are as follows: color, concept, balance, proportion, ergonomics and design purpose. Proper combination of every essential part can affect the overall look and feel of an area or space. Thus; it is but important to incorporate the seven elements of design (form, shape, color, mass, line, pattern and texture) to create and enhance style.

Interior Design of Al Ramaila General Maintenance & Decoration

A team of dedicated people led by Mr. Raja Sukumar formed Al Ramaila General Maintenance & Decoration in 1994. It sought only ambitious contracts, whether large or small as long as they prove to be rewarding and challenging. They always uphold quality and economy in all their projects to the satisfaction of their clients, even if they have them completed in record time. With these goals, the company utilizes the skillfulness of its manpower as well as the availability of all materials needed for the projects. Success has been tremendous for the company as it has been awarded big projects such as a time constraint hi-tech Terminal of Dubai International Airport in May 1997, as well as the contract for the Audi Corporate Offices in the Al Wasl Tower. One of the key competencies of this company is the fact that they employ a highly qualified team of engineers and technicians in the field of Interior Designs (Autocad, 3D, Animated Walk-through), Decorations, Contracting, False Ceilings, Floorings, Dry Wall / Dem. Partitions, Venetian Blinds, Plumbing and Sanitary, Plumbing and Sanitary, Electrical Works, Civil, Electro-Mechanical and Air Conditioning works, Construction, Paintings and Coatings, and General Maintenance.

Al Ramaila's designs reflects the culture and people of Dubai. From its high-rise towers and corporate offices, to its sleek villas and centers, Al Ramaila never fails to portray the fact that Dubai is the illustrative home of sand, sun and shopping; a modern country with exceptional communication technology, state-of-the-art industrial infrastructure and all the pleasures of modern life.

Interior Design of Adrienne Chinn Design Company Ltd.

In the Spring of 1999, a company was formed with the noble intention of bringing high-quality and original interior design to the commercial and residential marketplaces of London, this company is known as the Adrienne Chinn Design Company Limited of London. Its chief interior designer, Ms. Adrienne Chinn is the creative inspiration behind this well-established company. She is very passionate about small details and styles; thus, applied in all the company's projects are her flair for color coordination as well her working knowledge of style in both residential and commercial designs. Whether the project is small or large, the same dedication, focus and integrity were applied for a consistent high-quality result. The company aims to be original and resourceful at the same time.

The company boasts of a large portfolio of accomplished contracts ranging from single room renovations, to whole refurbishment, to internationally-acclaimed commercial projects. The company's designs carry London's high taste for rich colors, "thin" structures and luxury; from its double-height windows and spacious mezzanine, modern kitchens, dark wood mirrors, indulgent bathroom renovation, the use of glass blocks as well as art deco styles to its astonishingly stylish suites and virtual flats.

A Comparison of Culture

London's Interior Designs are always rich in color and pattern because designers believe that color is always the key to a good interior design from trailblazing designs to fresh palettes, luxurious and natural materials, to newly-interpreted patterns, all for a stylish, modern London residential and commercial dwellings. London's culture which is both subtle and dramatic, is being mirrored in its interior designs, as locals struggle to achieve a natural, prominent and layered look in all its artistic creations. The trend in London designs are leaning more towards sleek lines and dark brown woods, a reflection of London's unique, smart and modern taste. The rule: "Less is More" has always been the case in all their artistic design endeavors.

Designs in Dubai on the other hand are more focused on two concepts: Luxury and Security, wherein the former is measured by the weight of marble and chandeliers used and the latter is reflected in internationally-styled interiors familiar to all travelers from around the world. The challenge always lies on the fact that all designs in Dubai, to be successful, must live up to the gleaming promise of sleekness and modernity.

In the modern world that we live in today, it is believed that human life experiences are mostly played out in interior spaces. Yes, it's true that we may love the outdoors for the open air, for the sky, for the escape that it offers from life within an enclosure, but the very bliss of being outdoors mirrors the fact that so much of our life is spent within boundaries and corners of interiors. The way human dwells within these interiors expresses the culture and heritage that these interior designs are patterned from.

London and Dubai are indeed two different nations with diverse people and cultures, still, the fact remains that Interior Designing is best portrayed in aesthetics and originality. No matter how diversified are the depictions of each nations on its designs, if they all incorporate the seven elements of design, they will both create and enhance styles that reflect beauty and originality, as what both Adrienne Chinn Design Company Limited of London and Al Ramaila General Maintenance & Decoration of Dubai's Interior Designs have proven.
