Interior Paint Review: Behr Paint

I chose to use Behr Premium Plus interior paint in two rooms, this past February. As my fiance had just broken his ankle, we had to keep a close eye on our budget. A trip to our local Home Depot found Behr paint on sale for $20. This sale was on the heels of Home Depot reducing their Behr paint price to $24.99 per gallon. We purchased Behr paint in an eggshell finish, for the living room, and a satin finish, for the bathroom.

Behr Review: Color & Finish
Pros
Behr has a full variety of colors and finishes. Their color cards contain four shades, within the same color family. This makes it extremely easy to coordinate different tones, without having to search through other color cards. The Behr paint display, in Home Depot, also had color inspiration booklets. These booklets were displayed with every color group. Inside the booklets were inspiring ideas on how to mix and match Behr paint shades, not just within the same tone.

Cons
The colors shown on Behr's color cards are not true to the paint color. In my experience, the paint is actually a shade darker, when up on the walls. There is actually a disclaimer on the Behr color cards. This should be taken into consideration, when buying Behr paint. For me, this was a happy coincidence. The living room color we had chosen, Behr's Cliff Rock, was supposed to be a boring medium tan. When applied, it turned out to be a deeper, more interesting hue.

Behr Review: Application & Coverage
Pros
Behr paint goes on fairly smooth. Even using cheap brushes and rollers, which I do not recommend, I had few problems applying the paint. I think the coverage was good, for the price. It took two gallon cans of Behr paint to cover my living room and hallway. I painted three walls, upper halves only, in the bathroom. This only took a small quart can of Behr paint.

Cons
I did use two coats in both the living room and bathroom, after priming. This was just a preference on most walls, with the exception of where I applied Behr paint to new drywall. Even with primer, those walls required a second coat. Do not glob on the paint, or Behr paint will run. This is more of a problem with the shinier finishes, than the eggshell. It is easily solved by not over applying paint.

Behr Review: Appearance
Pros
The Behr paint looks great on my walls. The eggshell finish, in the living room, hides imperfections in the old walls. I was worried about the finish in the bathroom, having had to scrape off wallpaper, before painting. The satin finish blue paint, Behr's Victory Lake, looks amazing.

Cons
None that I can think of.

Overall, I would say that Behr's Premium Plus paint is a good bargain. You get good color selection, coverage and appearance, at half the cost of professional paint. I am so pleased, that I am going to buy Behr paint to decorate my newest house.
