"You're never too old
to become younger."
Mae West
(1892 - 1980)
Look in the lying looking glass
And tell me what you see.
I see adventure's boarding pass,
Not half a century.
The sand is falling far too fast;
Like a fair-weather friend.
How can we ever make it last?
We cannot comprehend.
Push back the hands that pass the hours,
And hold to moments sweet.
I need more time to smell sweet flowers
And run in stockinged feet.
Though vision dims, the laugh lines form
And gravity prevails,
I've never bowed down to the norm
Or ridden on coat-tails.
So saddle up my fastest steed,
And grab my spurs and rope.
I'll limp tomorrow, but I need
To find a way to cope.
The milestone's approaching fast;
In just a few furlongs.
But we will gallop on, full-blast,
To life we still belong!
The passing time can be a fright
With every ache and pain.
I'd rather gear up for a fight
Than circle 'round the drain.
