Many thousands of Red Cross Volunteers in Haiti and the staff of Red Crescent of several countries are now working round the clock to alleviate the sufferings of the injured and the wounded. The Red Cross and Red Crescent have been able to mobilize more than 500 tones of aid and also 20 Emergency Response Units (ERU's). In addition 43 Red Cross and Red Crescent flights have already landed in Santa Domingo and Haiti with emergency supplies. The Red Cross and Red Crescent have sent out an emergency appeal seeking 103 million USD or 73 million Euros so that 300,000 people can be assisted for three years. The following are the donors who are trying their level best to assist in Haiti.
American Red Cross: Are sending tarpaulins, cooking sets and hygiene articles for about 5,000 affected families. They are helping those injured who are in need of blood. They will soon send their disaster management specialist team to accelerate the healing process.
Americares is providing 5 million USD worth in medical aid to the survivors. It is inclusive of medical supplies, antibiotics, bandages and pain relieving medicines.
CARE: They have deployed team members that help in emergency services and in distribution of food in Port-au-Prince. More than 100 of their members are eagerly assisting the UN agencies. Convoy of Hope: They have an emergency command centre that is just outside of Port-au-Prince. They are helping with the distribution of the food and the water and other supplies.
Direct Relief International: Has plans to provide an emergency airlift worth 2 million USD of medicines and medical supplies.
Doctors without Borders: They are presently treating the injured in Haiti and are having plans for operating one inflatable hospital.
Food for the Poor: These are bringing in cash donations as well as canned foods, fish, water and condensed or evaporated or powdered milk which are of utmost importance for the young children. They are planning to distribute about 100 containers of much needed medical supplies as well as rice and canned food. They have plans to distribute another 300 containers.
The other notable charitable organizations include Partners in Health, Save the Children and Water Missions International. They are all assisting the survivors on a war footing.
