The addictions of today on the internet are easy to view or become a part of right at home. You are alone so no one knows what is really going on in your life. You no longer have to leave the house and try to sneak through the dark alley ways to feed a need. It comes to you electronically without judgment and most of the time without notice.
So what happens? Gambling is a big problem for many people. They will bet all their life savings and many times their lives. If the casino's are limited to one area of the country it leaves an easy paper trail to follow for other family members. An Indian casino keeps records and video's of everything that happens so if there is a problem it can be traced. But on the internet the gambling is very secret, the bank account emptied and loans over due before you can control it.
At this point it's not much harder to find another loan site or even a site the promotes and teaches you how to commit suicide. Not much of an option. There is no counseling and no one standing by to help you. You continue to sink into a world of debt until you finally fall into the world of money scams or pornography and child pornography in an effort to help with the debts.
But finally there is no more money and the pornography has taken such a hold on your life you can't think straight anymore. You are no longer a healthy person pursuing life. You are an addict with a drive so dangerous you'll hurt anyone who can get you the next fix.
But the laws are getting tougher and especially where children are concerned. Thanks in part to the internet many predators have been caught, but many more are created and contact each other with information they might not have had access to 20 years ago.
Over the next year as the economy becomes worse and people try to feed a false confidence many new laws will be created regarding protection of minors on the internet. Adults will be called on their addictions and will have to face jail time and humiliation not just in their own community, but the world over. With the bad this has created and the new laws it will need to create there is also much more control over individual criminals and their capture. The internet will become even more valuable for protection of children. It will become an even worse addiction for many adults. But you will be monitored with even more changes in the next year to come.
