Singles might be searching for a special someone to date, or even a nice long distance friendship. But beware! There are dating scam artist on the hunt.

Women and men around the world of every size, shape, and nationality are finding this a great way to meet eligible singles, and share their lives via chat, email, or instant message. Singles meet using dating message boards, instant messages, ICQ, dating chat rooms or signing up with a dating site. There are many chat rooms on the Internet dedicated to establishing connections with singles looking for love. Most ISP's have several chat rooms dedicated to introducing singles across the world. And they are often far too easy to find and join. And this is exactly why they are great hunting grounds for dating scams and con artist looking to steal personal information and money!

Internet Dating

Singles enter the cyberdating world innocently every day and get scammed. They receive attractive and interesting emails or message from what seems like an interesting man or woman. Maybe they have several things in common. They share dozens of emails. And a few conversations over the telephone. And the next thing you know this great new guy or girl request a personal loan. This is usually how the dating scam starts. They establish a friendship connection over several weeks. The victim lets their guard down. And they lose money along with trust. Follow these precautions to avoid Internet dating scams.

Dating Precautions

Slow Down - Don't rush into quick relationships with the first contact you meet on a dating site or chat room. Think before getting involved. Is this really the type of person you would actually date in the real world or introduce to your friends and family?

Precede Cautiously - Don't tell your entire life story or too much personal information to strangers in chat rooms or on singles message board. After all, who knows what kind of people are lurking in chat rooms, dating sites, or message boards? Protect your personal information from identity theft.

Keep it Private - Never reveal a personal email address in those chat rooms, or on those message boards, or even when signing up with a dating site. Set up a free email account to use for all correspondence and contacts to protect privacy.

Address- Never divulge telephone numbers in chat rooms. It is quite easy to look up an address with only the telephone number on the Internet. You don't want someone you corresponded with via email briefly showing up on your doorstep. Use number block when deciding to call someone on the telephone. That way private information stays safe.

And remember that many dating contacts on the Internet lie about their appearance, backgrounds, names, and where they live. They use this deception to attract even more victims to scam.
