Internet Games for the Family

Katie Just
A lot of games found on the internet are designed for adolescents and adults. What may be appropriate for your high school child, may not be a game you want your six year old to play. Despite the blood and guts, many online games feature foul language, and have Terms of Service that are either not monitored, or just not enforced. The solution is simple: A website with online games designed for family settings.

Slingo.com hosts a lare number of games even first grade students can understand and play without much help from parents. Games range from casino-style slots to Bingo and Mahjong. Some games are played in a chatroom setting where several member compete for Slingo points named coins, and other games are played individually. There's even a section to download games directly onto your computer, so you can play even without using the internet.

Registration to the Slingo website is free, and unlike many gaming websites, this registration only takes a few short minutes to complete. Everyone in the household can play using one registered user, or you can give everyone their own log in name for friendly competition. The Slingo coins can be used to enter daily, weekly, and monthly prize drawings for cash and Slingo merchandise. No money is needed to enter giveaways or to play games, unless you opt to purchase games for your PC.

Games on the Slingo website are not only fun, they serve as tools to sharpen motor skills, memory, and critical thinking. While some games are games of chance, others are games of skill where good, quick decisions can win the game. There are dozens of games to choose from, and all games are in categories for easy reference.

Although the games found on the Slingo website are family oriented, parental supervision should still be practiced to ensure the safety of children online. The Terms of Service are strictly enforced, and each multi-player room has a report button that can be used to instantly report inappropiate behavior. Game rooms are not sorted by age, so other players do not know ages or genders of anyone in the game room unless they are told. Chatting while playing the game is not required, so simply not responding to other players will ensure your identity remains private.

None of the games at Slingo.com have weapons or criminal acts in them. The games are sorted from casino-style to puzzle and arcade. Slots, poker, and bingo games do not require real money be used, all game winnings are in points, not cash. No matter what the age, there's bound to be a game at Slingo.com for everyone.

  • Games are sorted in categories to make finding a game easy.
  • Terms of Service is strictly enforced.
  • Some games can be played individually, instead of in a chatroom setting.

Thank you! I feel completely at ease letting my children on the Slingo site, and I am the worst of the "over-protective mothers" I know. Glad I could give you another option.

Thanks for this. I am concerned about the glorification of violence and criminal acts prevalent in video games (internet based or otherwise) these days.
