The most basic on-line crossword rule is how to navigate the puzzle. In order to see the clues, click on either a column number or a row number and the corresponding clue will be highlighted to the right. If you want to highlight any specific letter or box to change it, simply click on the desire box and it will turn a shade of darker blue to show that it is highlighted.
I know what you're thinking: that's great, but on-line crossword rules don't do me any good if I don't know how to play it! No worries. On-line crosswords are done just like paper crosswords, but much easier. If you have the clue highlighted that you want and you know the answer, then you can just start typing the word. Each letter will appear in the corresponding box. And because everyone makes mistakes, if you hit the wrong key at any point just click on the box with the incorrect letter and retype the correct letter. Just be careful because as soon as you fill the box with a letter the highlighted box moves to the next one and if you hit too many letters you run the risk of erasing what you already typed.
Another important on-line crossword rule to know is what to do if you get stuck. You can't know everything all the time, can you? If you just can't get some parts of the puzzle, hit the small button at the bottom that says 'Hint!' and it will fill in a letter for you. Just be careful not to use it too often because it adds twenty seconds to your time each instance it's used.
The best on-line crossword rule of all is that if you get in the middle of doing your crossword and get called away there's no need to worry about your time increasing drastically. Simple hit the 'save' button to save your progress and stop the timer so you can tend to your other business and then return to your crossword later.
The most important on-line crossword rule is to have fun! That's what any sort of game is about in the first place, and don't forget it. Enjoy the convenience of having one of your favorite activities readily available in a way that is more convenient than ever!
Now that you've read through all the on-line crossword rules, you should be feeling pretty confident about trying this game for yourself! If you're not, that's ok too. It gets easier the more you play, I promise. So get out there and start gaming. And remember, if you're looking for a good site, you can find one here.
