Internet Resources for the Gay Christian

Robert Borden
My journey as a gay Christian has been a long one, and I've previously dedicated an entire Associated Content article to the steps I had to go through in order to integrate my belief in Jesus Christ with my homosexuality. I've shared my struggles with many people along the way, and many of my more open-minded Christian friends have asked me for resources they can use to better understand how being gay can fit into a Christian world view. This request has come up so many times, in fact, that I've decided to compile a list of internet resources for gay Christians and their allies. The resources I've linked to below include some of the most comprehensive information on "pro-gay theology" that I've been able to find to date. So, if you are a Christian who is struggling with gay, lesbian, or bisexual feelings, or if you know someone who is, here are some great "starting points" for you to check out:

1. Whosoever.org - The Whosoever website is probably the very best page to start for gay Christians who are just beginning to try to integrate their faith and their sexuality. The Whosoever website contains a great section called "The Bible and Homosexuality," and provides an analysis of every single passage in the Bible where homosexuality is mentioned. The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section of the website provides some great logical arguments for pro-gay theology. For any Christian who has homosexual feelings but is convinced that being gay is a sin, the Whosoever website clears up many issues that would take you years to wrestle with on your own. If you're looking for a "one-stop shop" of great information about gay Christianity, the Whosoever website should definitely be your first stop.

2. Soulforce.org - Soulforce is a non-violent activist organization dedicated to fighting for LGBT equality within the American Christian church. The Soulforce website provides some of the same background information for LGBT Christians as the Whosoever website, but goes a step further in that it also provides gay Christians with meaningful ways that they can stand up equality within their own religious communities. The Soulforce website is also a great repository of information about current LGBT issues facing the church today, and also provides resources for LGBT Christians that want to get more involved in the gay rights movement.

3. The Gay Christian Network - The Gay Christian Network is an internet website designed exclusively for LGBT Christians and those who love them. Instead of just focusing on "pro-gay theology," the Gay Christian Network examines the issue of homosexuality from all sides, and provides a safe space for all concerned Christians to learn some of the arguments for and against homosexuality in the church. The Gay Christian Network's website also hosts one of the most active online communities for LGBT Christians, so if you are a gay Christian who doesn't feel like they have anyone to talk to, the message boards on the GCN website can offer a source of community and support for you.

There are many more internet resources available for LGBT Christians that wouldn't fit into this article. A simple Google search will turn up hundreds of websites full of information, inspiration, and encouragement for Christians who are struggling with their sexuality. Just remember that God love's everyone, and not to stop searching for answers until you are able to integrate your faith & sexuality fully without needing to hide anything from anyone.

  • Whosoever.org is one of the best starting places to learn about pro-gay theology.
  • Soulforce offers information for gay Christians wanting to fight for equality in their church.
  • The Gay Christian Network has one of the largest online communities of gay Christians.
Historically, the church has used the Bible to condone slavery & oppress women. Many scholars think that modern "Christian" views on homosexuality will one day be viewed as harsh and outdated.

I seem to recall that Jim & Tammy Faye Baker's son is a preacher and he's very welcoming to gay & lesbian Christians. Good article!
