Internet Scams

Ashley Furniture

Jannnie
There are many scams on the net, all looking to make easy money. I get hit with "Hello good friend" several times a week. I usually just delete and ignore, but there is one out there that peaked my interest. It entails a job offer for an accounts receivable officer for Ashley Furniture. Ashley Furniture is a real business with retail stores throughout the country. It seemed different so I decided to look into it a bit. Of course there are al kinds of warnings about this particular one, ( just google Ashley Furniture) but I sent in my info anyway.

A few days later I received an email saying welcome aboard. If you are not familiar with this particular scam, I'll explain it a bit. If hired as accounts receivable officer (as if they are going to turn you down!!) you will receive a check in the mail for thousands of dollars that you are supposed to cash immediately and send off all but 10% ( your payment) back to address they give you. All this is supposed to be done as soon as you receive the check. You are supposed to send money orders only to the the addresses given.

Well, I got my first check yesterday for the amount of $4850.00 made out to me. Now who in their right mind would even send back any money? After all, it is made to me with no return address on the envelope--which has a stamp from South Africa., and I never asked for it. What would they do, fly here and sue me? So I know I am the owner of this check of over four thousand dollars. Hmmmm, the things I could do with that! Too bad it is not real.

These are real checks to a fake account. Of course I am supposed to deposit this(not real) into my account (real) and make out money orders(real) to send to South Africa! My bank account has about $20.00 in it, I've been unemployed for the past 11 months due to medical disability, so where would the money I send out come from? Maybe I should scam the scammers and ask them to cover the amount in a money order just until the check clears (not likely) and I can reimburse them !

We are all looking for more money just to pay our bills, but be very learly about something that looks too good to be true--It usually is!
