Interracial Dating: One of Many Black Commentaries

Jude Moore
Before I comment, I would like to quote a certain member of the Facebook group "African Girls are Hott!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" on interracial dating:

"...Why do Black Men Love White Woman [sic]? I feel that firstly, in general, people want what they can't have. We know that throughout history, white women and black men were not supposed to be together and through all the transitions of American history, as a society becoming more open, interracial marriages have become accepted.

"Secondly and I've been thinking about this for a while and some may disagree, but White women have always been the 'image' of beauty. No matter where we turn, T.V., Magazines, etc, the person that is considered to be beautiful is always a white woman. So, it's really easy of a man of any race to want to be with a white woman.

"Throughout history, black woman have been subjected to rape by white slave masters and are continued to be dehumanized by always being portrayed as sex objects or a 'b*tch' in music videos or T.V. show. When you have such a background, you can sort of see why black men are with white women."

Ok, I could be wrong, but the last time I checked, there was typically some level of attraction between a male and a female - be it romantically, sexually, intellectually, or what have you - when they decided to either just have sex or engage themselves in a more stable relationship. I again could be wrong, but I highly doubt that black men - or any other race group for that matter - get together and go cruising for white chicks (or any other racial grouping of women) with the sole intent of satisfying any innate race-based curiosities they may have about their behaviors or their bodies. The information we now have on White, Black, Asian, and Pacific Islander cultures trumps anything that was known in the 18th century, contrary to what trace ignorant peoples and comedians would have one believe.

Additionally, it would appear that you know something that I do not, because I have utterly failed to come to any historical conclusion that "white women and black men were not supposed to be together." Are you advocating that it was supposed to be impossible? Was it not in some "Divine Plan?" If she is also a member of this group, I do encourage you to enlighten me, if at all possible.

Furthermore, if white women have been categorized as the epitome of human, feminine beauty, then I have only this to remind everyone of: we have an exceedingly valuable tool that our ancestors did not: an EDUCATION. There is no reason, ABSOLUTELY NO REASON, that you should fail to see a propaganda campaign for what it is. But if you must know, every other race does the same thing in their media; take some time to skim the pages of Jet magazine, or the adverts in a Chinese newspaper.

This should go without saying, but your "justifications" for why some black men opt to relate to some white women in such a way are thoroughly ignorant and lacking in the objective reasoning department. I shudder to think of what your "justifications" may be for why some black men go out with Asians.

i am black american and have dated black men and white men. i can understand why white woman date the black men. they have respect and was raised that way reguardless to the situation they are not going out of their way to cuss you out . white men do this if they do not get their way they are ready to call you a name not the n word but anything to attack your self esteem with. they act like little boys having tatrun. black men were raised by the sisters to listen and give it thought before acting. no wonder so many white woman want the brothers they should be kissing our feet for teaching the brothers how to be loving, understanding and not attack the one you love.....white men learn something from sisters,,,,,our men very learn early about respect for woman and we are not use to verbal abuse from her man....i was told by a white man i was dating him to get back at what happen during slavery, stupid isn't it .how many other white men think the same way . black woman are good woman ,how u know look is by how many white woman go after our sons. white woman teach your sons some character.

Holly11, you must be an idiot!! Let me remind you that you do NOT speak for all Black women. You folks should check out this web site called "The Fly Guy Chronicles", you would be surprised at how many famous Black women (some of them gorgeous), are dating White guys. They are NOT sitting around waiting for some black brother, like this fool Holy11. Keep waiting Holly11, you will be old and gray, and still waiting. Beauty comes in ALL races, unfortunately, racism was the reason this was not always shown in the media. An example of this was the 1950's actress Dorothy Danridge, who was prettier than Marilyn Monroe, but, got no recognition because of her skin color, which happened to be a beautiful shade of caramel.

REVISED: A white man is not an option for me and I would think most black women don't desire white men.

  • hollly11 12/29/2009

Black women can also find decent black men on dating websites...White men is not an option for most.

For black women who are interested in dating interracially, there are some blogs where you can get support and advice. I don't agree with everything on them, but they are generally good resources. One of the blogs is called Interracial Love and Spice by Sara. The home page has links to similar blogs. Also, online dating is a really good way to meet guys of other races (I've heard BW say you should stay away from eHarmony, but that they had success with PlentyOfFish dot com and Match dot com).

I'm glad more black women are dating interracially. It makes me very sad that so many lovely black women like my sister are alone and have been waiting for their black prince for decades. I'm a black woman in my 30s who has been happily married to a black man for several years, so I definitely believe there are some good black guys out there. However, black women need to expand their dating pool to include men of other races because there is a shortage of available black men for various

I appreciated your comments, because I feel that people who are insecure with their own self are the ones who make comments like the one you quoted. I am a "white" woman, with brown hair, green eyes, olive tone skin, and I am married to a black man. But my husband chose me because I was simply his preference not only in skin color and background but in so many other areas such as my personality, my values, and simply WHO I AM. Everyone of every race has their own preference when it comes to looks and characteristics, and if they were to get with someone simply because of what the media says, said, or whatever, then that relationship will not last long at all.

Rarely do I take up for the media, but it seems that they have done a pretty good job of not reflecting beauty as the "Barbie doll" type in recent years, the blonde hair, blue eyed, thin, white woman. It seems the media shows more of a diversity of beautiful women now, including women of all ethnicities and MOST size ranges. Though I definitely don't agree with the assertion that black men are "meant to be with" white women, I do believe that our media in the past did not include much diversity in showing female beauty. I think this may have promoted the Barbie doll type of woman in the past, which would make them a bigger catch in our society. I'd also like to add that I think interracial dating is perfectly fine, as long as the small cultural differences can be understood and accepted. Everyone has a right to find the right person who makes them the happiest. That's what a free society is all about.
