Interval Training: The Benefits

Ray Mickol
Have your workouts digressed into a dull routine? Are you working out and not burning the fat off? If this is the case, you can pick up some excitement and intensity by incorporating interval training into your exercise routine. Interval training was once considered the domain of elite athletes. Constant fast and slow laps around the track to build up strength and endurance, but they also knew that interval training made sense, more workout in less time. They found out that interval training burned more calories, kept boredom at bay, had huge cardiovascular benefits and could be done without any additional equipment.

Interval training is easy to incorporate into your present workout routine. If you are a walker, you can interval train. All you have to do is walk at your normal pace for a while. Pick a certain point, such as the distance between two phone poles, walk briskly between these points. Slow down for a while and repeat. You are interval training.

You can make interval training as complex as you wish. You can vary the speed and intensity of your weight lifting. Do a set of reps at regular speed. You can do the next set at slow speed. This will help with muscle mass. The third set of reps can be done quickly. This can help build explosive power and also raise the heart rate, benefiting the cardiovascular. You can vary your exercise routine on your own or if you have specific goals in mind you can consult a physical trainer.

Remember, as with all exercise programs, consult your physician before beginning interval training. After you have incorporated interval training into your routine, you will notice the benefits. The benefits of interval training include:

· Burning more calories per workout.

· Increased aerobic capacity

· Decreased boredom in your workout

Remember to start your interval training slowly. Rushing into a more intense workout routine can put you at risk for injury. If you feel you body is overstressed, back off. Interval training can be incorporated slowly into your workout routine. The benefits of interval training greatly outweigh the risks.
