Date of Interview: 08.25.2008
In August, I had a chance to interview with one of the most famous DJs of Costa Rica as she was here in Turkey to play.

RDA: Thanks for accepting my request to interview with you and welcome to Turkey.

DJ Monik: It is my pleasure. That is a very warm welcome, thanks a lot. I am glad to be here in Turkey for the first time...

RDA: Where did you get the idea to be a DJ?

DJ Monik: In 2002. It was actually my dream. It was a far dream but with a lot of effort and work, I became a DJ few years later.

RDA: As you know there are not many famous woman DJs around the world, did you realize that to be a woman DJ had difficulties?

DJ Monik: Well if you want something to happen, of course it is not easy and it is a long road to follow the path of 'famous DJ'S'. They worked very hard to be where they are, being a woman DJ as you said, it is not easy either. It could be compared as hard as any other job and it is not easy to work as a woman at any workplace.

RDA: What are your goals in 5 years?

DJ Monik: First of all I would like to release my CD with original Tracks. Then play all over the world, collaborate and produce.

RDA: What do you feel when you are playing?

DJ Monik: I feel butterflies in my stomach. I feel like being in trance, in contact with the people that is dancing with my music

RDA: Nowadays there are a lot of naked female DJs, are you afraid that people might think all woman DJs are naked?

DJ Monik: I am not afraid. People have to know the difference between me and them. I am not interested being naked to play, everybody look at me just to sell tickets and get the club full of men. That is not my style and I prefer to give the people an extraordinary Live Set of my music. I got nothing against the naked DJs. I just hope they can play their music as good as they sell their body. A naked DJ is not any different than a stripper

RDA: Did you get influenced by other DJs?

DJ Monik: Of course, of course I did. My main influence was Alexander Coe aka DJ Sasha. Then I had the chance to exchange ideas with big names from the global underground when I was working in a radio in Costa Rica.

RDA: Two turntables, a mixer and a computer, everybody can be a DJ and there are thousands of DJ want to bees today. What you think about them?

DJ Monik: Nowadays everybody wants to be a DJ. I was reading a forum few days ago that a guy wanted to be a DJ because he can have free drinks, free entrance and free girls. For this reason, everybody can be DJ, but not everybody have the musical ear, the soul or the heart to feel the Music.

RDA: Is there a moment in your music life that you cannot forget?

DJ Monik: They were a lot of great moments in my music life, but the one that I can hardly forget is I had the chance to open the night with one of my favorite DJs which is DJ Sultan.

RDA: What kind of reactions you got from your family when you told them you want to be a DJ?

DJ Monik: Well, they did not't believe it at all. Later they realized that I was going serious with this when I bought my pair of turntables. And then I started playing and coming home late. My mom always told me you are like a nurse.

RDA: You released your first single ''Flying Far Away'', do you plan to release more singles?

DJ Monik: Yes the Flying far away E.P was released last October. Right now I am working on new tracks and I hope I can release my album with original tracks soon.

RDA: What are your strengths and weaknesses?

DJ Monik: My strengths are my family, my dreams and plans. My weakness is my bad thoughts.

RDA: How we can get more information about you and your tour dates?

DJ Monik: www.myspace.com/djmonikmusic

RDA: Thanks a lot and we hope to see you in Turkey again

DJ Monik: You are welcome, I will be here again.
