Tell me a bit about yourself and your Etsy shop.
I am a mother of two: a 22-month-old son and an 11-year-old step daughter. I am currently a middle school engineering/technology education teacher as my day job but my corporation is laying off 60 teachers and I recently got my lay off notice. My Etsy shop features lots of hand stamped jewelry items with a variety of other items on the way.
What inspires you to create?
Things around me often inspire me to create. I strive to make things that my friends and family would love to have.
Describe your creative process.
I look through a variety of sources when I am getting ready to start a new project. I also talk to my friends and family to see what type of things they would enjoy.
What are some of your own favorite creations?
I think my favorite creation thus far is my personal "Mommy" necklace with my children's names.
How do you want your craft and business to evolve?
I am focusing now on building my local and online presence to a functioning profitable business.
What or who influences you as an artisan?
My children.
What brings people to seek out your creations, and what makes your work unique?
I think people seek my creations when they want something personalized and one-of-a-kind.
What choices have you made that helped your business the most?
I have decided to bring my shop from more hobby based to business focused.
What advice would you give to other artisans?
Don't get discouraged and continue striving for your dreams.
