Nikki of Etsy's Two Sweet Potatoes makes organic infant and toddler clothing and supplies that are both cute and functional. Here you can read more about why she believes in her business.

Tell me a little bit about yourself and your Etsy shop.

My name is Nikki. I first learned to sew from my grandma when I was 8 years old. I have a passion for cooking, healthy eating and fitness. The name of my shop Two Sweet Potatoes is inspired by my two boys. Since they were born, I've looked for ways to give them a healthy start. I feel organic products are an important part of this. All of the items in my shop are made from organic fabrics to minimize chemicals people are exposed to from the start. This means the people growing the plants used to create the fabric, the people weaving the fabric, and the person, or in this case baby or toddler, wearing the fabric are exposed to less chemicals.

What inspires you to create?

My boys and the desire to make organic items for babies and toddlers more accessible.

Describe your creative process.

I start with what's practical. I like things that are as functional as they are attractive. For instance, not only are my bibs soft but they absorb a lot more liquid than most bibs (for those super droolers). I try to think beyond just making things look good.

What are some of your own favorite creations?

I'd have the say the organic bamboo velour wipes. I've tried a lot of wipes including cotton, flannel, microfiber, woven bamboo... you name it. These wipes save time from folding and they hold a lot of water, eliminating the need for a wipe solution. They also stay soft wash after wash. Every time I use them the only thing I can say is,"Why didn't I start making these sooner?"

How do you want your craft and business to evolve?

I would like to expand the clothing options.

What or who influences you as an artisan?

When researching fabrics to use for my products I was really impressed with Harmony Art. I wanted to have a company like that. One that cared beyond what I was making and selling. To know that even in purchasing the materials for my shop, I am helping others live better and work in better conditions. It really got me thinking beyond just making cute stuff.

What brings people to seek out your creations and what makes your work unique?

I think there are many people like me that want to choose organic for their children as often as feasible. Organic clothing and accessories are still hard to come by. There are a lot of cute kids things out there but not all of them designed with functionality and comfort in mind.

What choices have you made that helped your business the most?

Having a clear concept for my shop. It's easy to get carried away and want to create more variety.

What advice would you give to other artisans?

Do what you love. Do work that makes you feel good not forced.

Where can your creations be found (on the web or in shops)?

All my infant and toddler items can be found at www.twosweetpotatoes.etsy.com.

Check out all of the wonderful organic items at Two Sweet Potatoes and other lovely Etsy shops.

You can also see my own Etsy shop here, where I sell my handmade jewelry, and you can read more interviews and articles about Etsy's wonderful artisans here.
