Interview with H.D. Campbell, Author of Late Murder at 10
Author H.D. Campbell Has a Purpose to Fuel the Spirits of Many Through His Writings!
H.D.C.: "No problem Yulonda. This is all about the world and the people that live in it, NOT ME! What really does an ego do for you, except you make look selfish!"
YB/AC: I could not agree with you anymore. I can see if you have a pen name that really makes an impact or gets you noticed for a great cause, but having a pen name just to glorify yourself isn't cool! So, H.D. tell me what your book, "Late Murder @ 10." is all about?
H.D.C.: "It's about Mark Alexander, an ex-investigative reporter (turned broadcast engineer for a St. Louis television station), witnesses the on-air murder of a hated news anchor by a mysterious assassin. When evidence points to the co-anchor Laura Skaggs and her survivalist fiancé, they are soon arrested for the crime. Convinced of her innocence, Mark Alexander employs his old investigative reporter tactics and launches his own investigation. He elects the help of his old partner, Laquita Davners, from the St. Louis Post to help. They find the anchor had personal problems both within and outside the station (including mob ties). As Mark Alexander gets closer, the truth gets closer, and the more dangerous things become. The case allows Mark to regain the spirit he lost when he left investigative reporting five years ago. Mark fights to unravel the mystery, but not before opening the floodgates of controversy surrounding the murdered news anchor."
YB/AC: I have to admit. I am really not into murder, mystery or even sci-fi books but there have been a few authors works (such as yours) that I have given a chance. I was very happy with the outcome of the book. A great read and most of all, not too many issues were presented. I hate mysteries when there are a million things going on. It's too confusing for me. Not to say I can't focus, but dang, give me a plot or a story line that is worth focusing on.
H.D.C: "See, that old attitude of yours is what I want the rest of the world to kick to the curb. No matter what genre an author chooses to write in, if the story is presented and written well, then who really cares what you read. I truly believe that literature is just like music....to each it's own. However, whenever someone comes across my book, my goal is to make my work apart of the genre of literature they commit to reading."
YB/AC: I see that you are focused to dedicating your time and energy to other authors as well. I've met some authors that feel they have no time to help anyone, because no one helped them. I feel that if they take the time to retrace their literary walk, they will find that one person that helped them. We all have someone that helped and mentored us along the way. Is it good to help promote, mentor and educate new and up coming authors?
H.D.C: "Yes, I have a group titled H.D Campbell Productions. It assists new, unpublished writers in the beginning stages of the publishing process. I provide editing services, query writing, and communicating with publishers. I also assist the writer in promoting their work through my other website at www.hd.campbell3.com. I also have another website where I promote myself and other authors. I also list and state the accomplishments of all these authors as well. It never hurts to give back, it only hurts when you take and never say thanks."
YB/AC: Isn't that the truth. I never look for anything in return when I interview authors. Hell yet alone a FREE copy of their book! I know that selling books is a business, so if I am that interested in someone, my first move should be purchasing their book. I am not one of those reviewers/interviewers that promise to give a review, request your book, then post a lousy review, or better yet....don't post the review at all. I just don't roll that way!
H.D.C: "Thanks I appreciate that!"
YB/AC: Okay, I know all authors have an introductory story on how they got bit by that vicious "writing bug" so spill it Mister!
H.D.C: "Boredom caught me one afternoon,so I wrote a short Black History poem to impress my teacher with. Months later to my surprise I learned that my poem was published in a childrens magazine. That only fueled me! I never looked at writing as a career back then. I really had being an artist on, and in my brain. My nature was so strong that it allowed me to not only draw good pictures, but place the words around them that made the portrait dance! I used to save my money to buy notebooks just to fill then up with stories. Stories that ranged from intrigue, mystery, and romance. All of this work was mine and I kept it very near to me. It wasn't until my junior year of high school that I wanted to make writing a career. I chose journalism. I was pretty much the man on the campus. I was writing speeches and poetry for our school assemblies. I was even allowed to write material for our school musicals."
YB/AC: Very well rounded and oh so talented. See, God has purpose for us all.
H.D.C.: "That is true. We all have an inner star that just wanting to shine!"
YB/AC: What are you thankful for?
H.D.C: I thank God for giving me the talent to write and share my talent with others. I've had a great journey so far and I am looking forward to traveling even further. I cannot stop doing what I am doing. I live, breathe and taste this everyday! I would be so sad if I could not do this anymore!
YB/AC: You will because your act is pure and your heart seeks to help many. God bless and I wish you much success in all that God allows you to do! This way of living will continue to be yours! What God gives...no one can take that away!
H.D.C: It was really a pleasure.
YB/AC: Same here! Be well and much success!
