Interview with the Hubby on Our Anniversary

I Thought I'd Give it Another Try

Pattie Byrd
The hubby and I are having a wedding anniversary this week. Although it's a joyous occasion, after the 25th and before the 50th, these days don't hold quite the zest they once held for us. But in an effort to help him redeem himself after his last interview, I thought I would allow him to share a few feelings about our upcoming anniversary. Anyone who didn't read the first interview can find it here.

ME: You know, Honey, it really was nice of you to volunteer for another interview. I just hope with this one, you can let the people get to know you a little better. I think a lot of people got a bad impression of you from the other one.

HUBBY: First of all, I didn't volunteer for this. You said I had to do this, or I wouldn't get any supper. This feels a lot like volunteering in the Army when someone would send you into a bunch of bushes to see if the VC were hiding in there.

ME: Well, anyway, I appreciate your efforts. By the way, I didn't say I wouldn't feed you at all. I just wanted to do this before we ate. We'll eat as soon as we finish, I promise. Okay, let's get started. Are you excited about our anniversary this week? Why are you looking at me with that blank stare? You do remember that our anniversary is this week?

HUBBY: Yeah, sure, I remember. I'm looking forward to Saturday.

ME: Our anniversary is on Friday.

HUBBY: I know that. I just meant that Saturday will be the start of a new year together for us.

ME: Uh-huh. Well, why don't you tell one of your best memories from all our years together?

HUBBY: Let me think a minute. There's been so many of them. Oh, yeah, I know, the day I got my new sports car.

ME: That's not a memory of us. That's a memory of you and the car.

HUBBY: Well, you were with me when I got it.

ME: You mean over 40 years together, that's the best you can come up with?

HUBBY: What do you want from me? You know I have trouble thinking on an empty stomach.

ME: Okay. Let's try something else. What was there about me when we were dating that made you want to marry me?

HUBBY: Because you kept worrying me and told me it was time to get married.

ME: I didn't ask you to marry me, you know.

HUBBY: No, you're right, you didn't ask. I believe the phrase was "It's time to get married."

ME: I thought you loved me.

HUBBY: That makes us even because I thought you could cook.

ME: I thought you married me because of my brain.

HUBBY: Trust me, no 21 year-old guy gets married because of a woman's brain.

ME: Well, why have you stuck around for all these years if you got such a bad deal?

HUBBY: I didn't say I got a bad deal. I just think you got a better one.

ME: Well, personally, I think maybe someone owes me a medal for protecting you from all the other women out there.

HUBBY: You wouldn't be saying that if my mother was here.

ME: This is pointless. I don't know why I even thought this interview would go better than the last one. I give up.

HUBBY: Oh, but I do have one piece of advice if it'll make you happy, and we can eat. I think people should always marry someone who makes them laugh. A good laugh in the bad times makes it easier.

ME: Don't I know it. Well, anyway, Happy Anniversary.

HUBBY: Oh, come on, give me a little smooch. We might make that 50 years after all. Now, what's for supper?

And, Oh, yes, the laughter is the most important thing, without it we'd all be in straight-jackets!
