The Hughes is a band that consists of musicians that have been out in the music scene for a long time doing different things before coming together and forming the Hughes .
You can hear a song from the Hughes by clicking "Oxygen"
Hughes is currently a semi-finalist in the 2007 Emergenza Festival and they were recently selected as a finalist in The Unveiling Christian Music Talent Contest hosted by onseeker.com. Now on to the interview to see how Hughes was created and what they want for the future of their band.
Can you tell me a little bit about who all's involved in the band?
HB - Well right now it's myself Adam Hughes, I was the lead singer of Second Stone for 10 years and me and Dave Ashley hooked up about a year ago and decided to put Hughes into existence and we have Frank Romero he's on bass he joined us in September or October, Al Boyce on Drums who joined us a couple months ago and then we have David Busby on lead guitar and he just joined us last week. That is our crew
When was the Debut CD Released?
HB - "Do it all Again" was released in September. After we got the CD done Dave and I put the rest of the band together. So these guys actually aren't on this CD they will be on the next and they play with us live. This CD was already done before they came onboard.
I saw the myspace site for "Polaradio" and noticed the name Hughes there. Is that a band of yours also?
HB - No that's my brother's band. Dusty Hughes is my brother and he was the producer on the CD. He has won several awards for his producing career and he has done work with The Cranberries, Depeche Mode, David Bowie, and Collective Soul. We are real fortunate to have him producing us.
Tell me about your CD?
HB - Well there are 17 songs on there and if you were going to put it in a general category it would be rock.
What are some of each of yours musical influences?
HB - Probably Collective Soul of course you can't ignore the Beatles, see a lot of us come back from being in music for over 20 years so through the years we could list a long list. But when you listen to the CD we've been compared to Creed and Third Day. It's pretty broad what we like. Some of us grew up playing guitar in the 70s so there two or three decades of musicians that have poked us one way or another.
Where do you typically play or do you go all over?
HB - Were trying to branch out of the state of Colorado Springs right now, Of course the goal is to become a national act. Typically we play a lot of colleges we usually shy away from the bar band scene. We have all been there and done that and we are kind of over it. We are trying to play more music venues. One show we are offered and we are going to have to decline because we can't get down there right now. There is a website called onseeker.com and they had a lot of Indie bands submit there material there were over 200 bands and they picked the top 15 to come and do a show in Houston. We were picked for that but unfortunately we are not going to being able to make it down it there with all of our schedules and stuff. That's the kind of things we are trying to do.
Do any of you write any of the songs that you sing?
HB - We write them all, this is all original work. When we do live shows we sometimes mix cover songs in there but our primary interest is getting our music out there.
What websites can fans visit to find out more the band?
HB - www.hughesband.com and www.myspace.com/hughesband
Is there anything that you really want people to know about the band?
HB - Our music is about hope and encouragement for those who seek better days. We have been there and made it through some pretty tough times. We believe we can make a difference in a world that is often darker than it needs to be. That is the serious side of what we do. And if only from a pure entertainment level - we think you'll find Hughes simply rocks. We're having a lot of fun and we hope people will join us.
