Interview with Julie Paiva, CEO of Table for Six Total Adventures

PSN: Please describe your professional background...
JP: I have been a professional dating/relationship coach for over 20 years, and founded Table for Six Total Adventures in 1997. I also teach classes on how to have success with dating and relationships at the Learning Annex, among other venues, and am currently finishing my book "Who do you Want to be with When Life Happens?"
PSN: What exactly is Table for Six and how does it work?
JP: Table for Six Total Adventures is an upscale dining, adventure and matchmaking club.We have over 13,000 members in California, and have had over 980 marriages. Our members are single professionals who do not have the time, or access, to meet other quality members. Each member has an opportunity for 12 one on one matches, 13 events like hiking, cocktail parties and skiing each month, and also our famous 3 men, 3 women dinner parties.
PSN: Describe a typical Table for Six dinner...
JP: 3 men and 3 women meet at a popular restaurant and our greeted by our Table for Six host, who provides them with a complimentary glass of wine, and seats them boy-girl, boy-girl around a round table for six. Each table is carefully designed based on common interests and physical preferences. Each diner also receives a separate check.
PSN: How did you come up with the idea for Table for Six?
JP: While coaching my clients I recognized a real need for a comfortable, safe, friendly environment for singles to really connect with each other, and knew that the number six was the perfect size for maximum comfort, a Table for Six dinner party is big enough so that no one feels self-conscious, but small enough for each member to feel a part of. I then added on our Total Adventure club, recognizing the need for singles to have fun on the weekends meeting new people who shared their same interests, while having fun! In 1999, based on our member's suggestions, we developed our Just for Two department where we can do an "executive search "type matching where we really drill down on the very specific wants our members for their long-term relationship. This combination of services allows our members to meet over 50 quality singles each month, and we do all the work, they just show up and enjoy themselves. We are the only "full-spectrum" dating service in the country, and each club location employs 3 full-time dating experts. We currently have 5 clubs in California, and are expanding nation-wide next year.
PSN: How many current members do you have?
JP: 13,000
PSN: How big of a problem is dating fraud?
JP: In our club we have not experienced this problem since each prospective member is screened during a hour and 1/2 consultation with us so we can ensure that they are who they say they are. On Internet dating sites there is of course a tremendous amount of false advertising, if you will.
PSN: Do you have any tips for daters to avoid meeting Mr. or Ms. Wrong?
JP: Joining an upscale club like ours , which screen their prospective members, will help a lot. Also, trust your instincts, if something feels wrong, it probably is. If concerned that the person you are dating is married, tell them you want to mail them something, like a book, CD, etc... and ask for their home address. If they refuse to , this probably means they are married, or living with someone.
PSN: Do you have any advice for someone who is heading to their first Table for Six Dinner?
JP: Be open-minded, and open - hearted! Make a great first impression by dressing carefully, using excellent table manners, and be friendly and positive! Look for what you have in common with everyone, and most importantly, smile and expect to have a great time! When there's someone who attracts you on your table, call us up the next day, and we'll contact them on your behalf. Therefore, there's no need for any fear of rejection, or social anxiety- just be yourself- your most outgoing and enthusiastic self (!!!) and have a great time. Remember, we planned this dinner party with you in mind. One more thing, remember to never talk negatively about your past relationships, your job or anything else- people are very attracted to an optimistic person.

JP: We choose restaurants that are moderately priced, popular, but quiet enough so everyone can hear each other.

Post a CommentI'm not a member with this company so I haven't had any personal experiences but my best friend found her husband on one of the events they put her on. I don't know her exact story but I do know that they did nothing but help her out completely and they absolutely did give her the service she paid for. Some people complain about how this company ripped them off. My friend has never lied to me before and if she says it's the most incredible service out there than I believe her. I think this company doesn't get the gratitude it deserves.
Everything was great about my last event. It had a really nice setting and everyone was really laid back and nice. All the participants were very similar which made it much easier for us to connect. The restaurant was also great and had an awesome menu. The service was immaculate. The Food was terrific. Everyone was polite and we even shared food. I liked Charlie the most out of all the guys at the table. He's a wonderful guy. We had lots of laughs and a lot in common. He truly is a genuinely nice man. I thought he was open and honest about himself, his history and what he's looking for. After dinner, he and I scheduled to see each other again the next week. I am very grateful for this service.
