Interview with Nashville Musician Chely Wright

The Wright Inspiration

Poetic Halo
Time deals you a hand of cards everyday of your life. How you choose to play those cards will forever lie in your hands. Chely Wright chose to play her cards in Nashville devoting her life to music. "Don't try for it if you can imagine doing anything else with your life." She states boldly.

When asked what she would be doing if she were not singing she replied, "Trying to get a record deal." This only displays the dedication and direction she has in her life. A small town phenomenon, Chely has given a lot of people basis in their life, through what most call just music. With the start of a charity called, Reading, Writing, and Rhythm, she has proved her concern with music education in school. RW&R is close the Chely's heart, "The lack of funds for a horn almost stopped me from joining the JHS band."

With the sincere meet and greets under her belt, Chely seems to add serenity to everyone's life she encounters. "It is overwhelming to know people are traveling to see me. I always feel like people wound up there on accident." Chely established her position with a purely honest portrayal, "Fortunately, the person I portray to the public is me- I don't have to get into character. I'm not Christina Gaines!"

Is performing as fun as she makes it look, "Every time!" How would Chely describer herself, "Manic, optimistic, and a worry-wort. Do all those confuse you, they should." She says her favorite TV shows consist of Law and Order and her love for CNN.

Is there a love for acting, "I did musical theater and plays earlier in my life. I'll never say never. I want to concentrate on my music for now." Chely tried her hand at acting in Max Keeble's Big Move (2001).

With her elegance and intelligence, does she ever feel her appearance overrides her thinking cap, "No, I think there are plenty of mediums for people to find out about me. If you sit and stare at my album cover you may not see past it. IF you take the time to find out about me you will see right off the bat I can conjugate sentence."

Off of the "Single White Female" album a personal favorite of mine is Picket Fences. With society's expectations to get married and have a family, do you feel people get swept up in them. "Sometimes, yeah. When everyone around you is doing it you feel a bit abnormal. My most exciting times and travel experiences were in my twenties."

Chely Wright is an inspiration through her music, her behavior, and her intellect. These are the things we need to instill in the future of our youth.
