SM- Nicole, please introduce yourself. You know where you came from, how and why you are where you are now.
NA- i'm nicole atkins, i'm from neptune new jersey. i've been playing guitar and singing since i was a wee gal. i put together my band, the sea, in brooklyn a couple years ago and we just finished a record called "neptune city," that is coming out this summer on columbia records.
SM- Busy, busy! I see you were featured in Rolling Stones, how did that make you feel?
NA- extremely flattered, a bit embarrased, and very happy!
SM- I would say. Have you always wanted to be a musician?
NA-yes, ever since i was in kindergarden. i wrote my first career goal paper in the fifth grade about how i wanted to be the singer of a rock band and act in horror movies.
SM- So, wonder what your teacher hadto say about that? Hmm.. Who or what inspires you when writing your music?
NA- my personal life, other peoples' personal lives, my town, boats, ghosts, drunken stories
SM- Everyone loves drunken stories and ghosts! Okay, what inspired you to write Snowshakes?
NA- a ridiculously late night with an undesirable human
SM- I love your personality! Great!! Okay, last one, in one phrase explain your musical style.
NA- psychedelic nostalgic beauty with an once of dread and an ounce of hope
SM- Very well put!
As you can see, Atkins has it going on. You can feel the passion in every song and you are hooked from the start. Again, thank you Nicole for taking the time to talk to me. If you'd like to check out Nicole Atkins and The Sea, go to http://www.myspace.com/nicoleatkins or nicoleatkins.com.
