My nieces
Date of Interview: January 3, 2009
Today I decided to interview my two nieces, for fun. I believe they are future luminaries, so I thought I should get them used to the spotlight. One is seven, and the other is six. They are learning quickly these days and can read pretty well now. Their first spoken language was originally Arabic and then they went to school here and now know English a lot more. Niece 1 is the younger one(I didn't switch the names even though the older one should probably be Niece 1). I asked them the following questions:

What's your favorite game to play?

Niece 1: "I spy, eagle eye!"

Niece 2: "Freeze tag!"

What's your favorite food?

Niece 2: "That's very easy. My favorite food ever is strawberry."

Niece 1: "My favorite food is ... I'm thinking. Strawberry jell-o. And colorful jell-o... with walnuts! I tasted that before."

What's your opinion about television?

Niece 2: "Arthur and Tom and Jerry! Yeah that's my favorite TV channel. And even Ben 10."

Niece 1: "Sesame Street and Arthur, Clifford, Tom & Jerry, Princess, Dora... (laugh) and that's all. They're my favorite."

What do you like better: Egypt or America?

Niece 1: "How does America look like? [I tell her "it's a country"]... Egypt - it's nice and sunny!"

Niece 2: "Me too."

Do you like using the computer?

Niece 2: "Yes. I'm niece 1 because I was born in 2001 and she was born 2002."

Niece 1: "Yeah, my favorite."

How do you think the USA is going to improve the economy so everybody can make more money?

Niece 2: "Work and try hard."

Niece 1: "Be friends and work together."

How do you think the people in the world can stop fighting?

Niece 2: "Oh that's easy. That's very easy. Like if I were a president I would tell everyone to stop fighting and don't lie."

Niece 1: "Be the policeman."

Do you support Barack Obama?

Niece 1: "What is support? [ after saying it means "like him" ]... Yeah, because he is the winner. "

Niece 2: "Yeah, me too."

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Niece 2: "Oh that's easy. Easy peezy. No easy weezy peezy. An artist."

Niece 1: "I'm thinking ... [Niece 2 says "you want to be a nurse"] I don't wanna be a nurse I changed my mind."

How do you think we can improve world health?

Niece 1: "I know to be a doctor. Or a hospital lady."

Niece 2: "[laugh] Umm... I don't know. Let me think... from not littering and growing vegetables and fruit."

What do you think about school?

Niece 2: "I think that, like, ummm... P.E., recess, and our cluster, yeah those are my favorite things about school."

Niece 1: "Not fun! P.E., recess, cluster, and math and activities are my favorite."

How would you cheer up your friend if she was really sad?

Niece 1: "If I said they're fat I'd say 'sorry you're not fat. Don't cry.' That's all."

Niece 2: If they were crying I'd say, 'Don't cry. let's look for a teacher. Tell me who made you cry.' And if they told me then I'd tell the teacher or an adult."

Why is gold more expensive than silver?

Niece 2: "That's easy. Because it's so pretty and beautiful so all girls love gold."

Niece 1: "Because it's gold that's all... I don't know why."

Can you explain to me what electricity is and how it works?

Niece 2: "Electricity is something that you use and it works when you put on the lights or switch something."

Niece 1: "If there's a - what is the light called in the sky again - [ I tell her "lightning" ] "If there was a lightning in our house the electricity would go out. "

Do you think one day we're going to be able to fly to Mars?

Niece 1: "No, Noooo!"

Niece 2: "I don't know. I think yes."

What is the solution to cancer?

Niece 2: "I don't know that one. No way."

Niece 1: "By taking care of people - let them eat vegetables and fruits. Give them medicine, let them go to sleep on their tummies if their stomach hurts every day, and that's all. Good."
