Conducting a job interview requires professionalism, honesty and knowledge of people and the position which they are applying for.
Hiring the right person from the start will give your company great opportunity to focus on flourishing the business and concentrate on building a successful future for it!
Once I introduced myself I gave the hiree a chance to introduce themselves as well. I made some small talk and build some rapport with the interviewer before starting, I learn about their personality and this will put them at ease.
A brief presentation of the job description is necessary and I have to have the right questions. Highlighting what's most important to your company will be strongly suggested.
I will ask some questions about their background, work experience and accomplishments; why they think they will be the best for the position, what could they bring to the table that would make a difference in the job.
When asking what learning style works best for them, that take some pressure away. Some learn by following instructions, some by listening and some will say hand on learning works better for me. From their prospective, to know that there is some flexibility in the learning process, it 's a great thing.
By asking if they do well even when they like the job just 50% of what that involves, you might get an idea if they will stick around for the long term. I like to find out in the first interview if they are committed to the job.
If the job involves traveling, through in the question if someone depends on them day by day, like a pet they have to care for; then I'm pretty sure they - the hirees, - will open up and talk about family without you having to be crossing the line.
Asking someone if they will be able to run the place in my absence, gives them a chance to think higher of themselves and you can see that trust starting to build up, their face will lit up and there is a sparkle in their eyes. If you follow their facial expression, you know you started building a bridge of trust right there and then.
I ask them if they could and want to be a leader in the industry and what would they do if they have to lead my team, how would they feel having to communicate important information.
During the interview I like to find out if they are good at prioritizing and delegating. Give them an example or two to work with, the hiree will show you their potential by presenting their options in those situations.
At the end of the day, a few job interviews should give you, the one conducting the interview, - the option to find the best person for your company. Making the right decision, should give you great satisfaction.
There are very few companies that make an interview less formal then expected. Job interviews are common in most places and they will take place even if you are highly recommended by someone important in the industry.
