Associate Content: You were born in 1976! Our country was born in 1776! How does it feel to be a centennial baby?
Martha Wainwright: Well I guess it makes me feel like a part of the story as we all are. One thing i have also always felt is the weight of the past, which i am happy for.
AC: You've almost been married for a year...How is it going?
MW: It's going very well I must say. Although we are still in our crappy apartment in Brooklyn, we are happy. Marriage makes me think of the future, being a Bicentenial baby makes me think of the past...Now all I have to do is not forget about the present.
AC: Do you find your music or songwriting changing now that you're married?
MW: Brad Albetta, my husband, knows who he married. He also knows me very well as an artist, because we work together and he produced most of my recordings. You should hear his lyrics! Totally off the wall.
AC: What was the best advice your father ever gave you about the music business?
MW: I think my father taught me a lot about live performance and how to pace your set. Watching Loudon also taught me about how fragile it can all be and that the foundation is the music and songwriting.
AC: What was your back-up career, did you ever want to be an astronaut or firegirl?
MW: I am a fire girl! I put out fires in the heart! Or cause them I'm not sure..... Just kiddin! I would have liked to have been an art historian. I would have also liked to be a Doctor.
AC: Who would win in an arm wrestling match - you or Rufus.
MW: Rufus of course, he's been working out. He has an inner strength that is frightening, I admire his conviction. There was a short time i could beat him up though!
AC: What can us kids expect from your live shows?
MW: Well I'm not exactly sure because we will be playing with a new guitar player. I like to switch up certain players but keep the core. Brad plays bass and we have a great rhythm section with Matt Johnson (from Jeff Buckley band and Rufus) on drums. We will play mostly songs from the new record but also the old hits!
AC: Last question....How do you like your Philly Cheesesteak? Chicken, Beef or Vegetarian?
MW: I'll have to figure that out after the show.
